Grass Lake Orchard We have moved over to field trips only. Field trip slots sold out for 2023 season. This Orchard was started over 100 years ago and was once much bigger.

Now, just about 100 trees and our little family taking care of it, but we are excited to bring you local apples in a simple way. Stop by the stand and grab some apples on your way home or on your way out. We cannot sell you cider out of our kitchen, but we would love to teach you how to make your own on our very own press. This Saturday, open house style…come pick your own beautiful apples at $1.50 a pound. We are out from 3:30 - sunset picking apples, pressing cider, and then gathering at the fire pit. Come as friends and leave as family, joined by the love of all things apples. Any payment for apples or donation of money goes to the orchard and the process of becoming non profit and inviting more kids onto the orchard next year!

Did you know apple skin can get a “sun tan”?! The apples on the under side of branches will be greener and the ones at the top get red. We have had apples with leaf marks where the leaf blocked the sun. This morning we grabbed a bag of apples from the stand for our road trip…the words on the bag had marked the apple where the area around it got sun.

Thanks to the help of Rockford Christian 5th graders, we got the farmstand clean and apples in the carts. The kids even put out the open sign! Come and get ‘em! Macintosh, Gala, and Rome in the stand now! $12 cash or Venmo for 1/2 peck bag of apples.

It’s almost time!!! Finishing up some things in the stand(new outdoor classroom at the back of it), and deep cleaning the carts to hold beautiful apples. Started picking apples with Adeline while my dad mowed around the trees(because I got stung after stepping on a bee I didn’t see😩). Hopefully tomorrow you will drive by and see the open sign up: Gala, Rome, and a lot of Macintosh ready to be sold. 1/2 Peck bags for $12, cash or Venmo accepted!

Our Story

We are the Brubakers and we moved onto the old Grass Lake Orchard in 2014. The trees were overgrown and we just thought we would enjoy lots of apples. We soon realized that there were a lot more apples than just we could consume. We did our research and continue to learn more every year. We follow along with the spraying of the trees like that of other local orchards, however there is less spraying done and not licensed for some of the chemicals...so, you may notice some of the apples won’t be the prettiest. But, we think they taste pretty Michigan apple delicious!
