What’s New This Season…
We’re proud to share that Grindstone Farm is now FSMA (Federal Food Safety) certified, in addition to maintaining our NOFA Organic Certification (which we’ve held for over 45 years!). This year we’re also partnering with the NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) to participate in conservation grants focused on land stewardship and soil improvement.
As we look toward the future, we’re exploring opportunities to expand our community access programs — including EBT, NYS Double Up Food Bucks, and eWIC, and strengthen our partnerships with local food banks. We believe everyone deserves access to healthy, local food, especially in today’s challenging economic times.
Looking Ahead…
As our founder and my mentor, Farmer Dick, takes thoughtful steps toward retirement, we’re beginning to envision what the next generation of Grindstone might look like. While I can’t imagine taking this beautiful land and dream forward alone, we have begun exploring a farming future involving several farmers in a cooperative farming structure. We will welcome new emerging farmers, providing a space for growth and development as well as land, infrastructure, community, education, and markets. The goal is to create a sustainable, collaborative model that ensures the long-term future of the farm. This year, we’re introducing trial residencies for a few emerging farmers, each cultivating their own plots and contributing to our crop planning and production, while also developing their own farming markets. We’re hopeful this approach will bring even more diversity and quality to the produce you receive as well as secure the longevity of the farm’s future.
