Why the name "Battle Row"?? ....
The Battle Row School was originally where the market was going to be located.
The Battle Row one-room schoolhouse was situated at the intersection of Buckwalter and Mitchell Roads in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. It was constructed in 1874 and served the local community until its closure in 1952. The school earned its unique name due to the bickering of miners’ wives who did laundry in Spring Run, a stream near the school, creating a lively and contentious local atmosphere that became legendary in the community.
Current Status
While the original schoolhouse is no longer standing as an educational facility, its location is now occupied by the Richardson Tree & Landscape Company, Inc. The site remains a notable piece of the county's heritage, representing the era of one-room schoolhouses that played a foundational role in the rural education system of Mercer County.
