These saddles will be on display for a few more days. Then they'll be heading to Oskie Rice Event Center for the Oskie Rice Memorial Rodeo!

Ahem. Our new black box is finally installed!!!

Look, sometimes your old black box that held old fryer oil for Pacific Biodiesel to pick up breaks. And then you're stuck for a good long time using 50 gallon drums to store the oil. Which is not ideal and not fun to dump oil into.

It's a good thing we know talented people that do all kinds of stuff. We spun our rolodex and called up Hanapa'a Welding Co. to see if he could make us a replacement black box.

He dropped off the finished piece last week with a few upgrades to our old design that will make it easier for our workers to use.

Thank you for being flexible this week. Our produce chill compressor decided that it was time to go, so we were without this whoooooole chill for majority of the week.

All the produce squished into the organic produce side and the cold prep items went around the corner to take refuge in the poke area and the egg chill.

Sometimes we think the universe is trying to test our "easy does it" nickname...

We're gratfeul to have people like A-1 that we can panic call. They found a replacement compressor, ordered it, and installed it in such a short amount of time.

Having the chill down gave us a chance to do a little sprucing up. Shelf strips and shelf liners were replaced.

We're back to normal now and so grateful to have the room to spread out our produce again.

The Pukalani Elementary School 4th grade knows how to warm our little green heart 💚

We don't do our school supply donation for the thank you, but the sweet messages and drawings from the 4th graders definitely brightens our day.

Remember, we stay in the store when you're done purchasing your bento and are on your way. Now, we get to see colorful artwork and very thoughtful messages all day.

We're including a few pics of some on this post, but they're blanketing register area. We tried to put the ones with longer messages at eye level so that the aunties don't have to bend down too far to read.

We'll explain why we don't have a ceiling later...

Right now, we really needed to satiate our curiosity - why are there boxes in the ceiling?!?!

Manager Chris helped bring the boxes down, which is fitting because he might have had a hand in getting them up there to begin with. We hoped they were time capsules filled with treasure. They're pretty sturdy old school file boxes. Probably from around 1994...

To our dismay, they were all empty ☹️ but that still doesn't answer why they were stuck up in the roof to begin with. Was someone squirreling it away for later use? Were we using it for insulation?? If you're a 1990s Puk Sup Alumni, do you remember why???

So many questions, no answers yet. We call this a win though because none were inhabited by critters.

On Sunday, someone decided to reverse into our store wall. We don't know who since they left after realizing what happened.

It's the SAME wall as last time, but just right out of the area that was repaired and reinforced a few years back.

We were concerned that a critter might decide it's a good hidey spot or that rain would come and in turn get rhe wall wet from the inside.

We called on our friends at Accurate Excavation & Concrete to do the repair. We are amazed that it's already repaired and it was done with such skill! It's like it never happened! This is why we call the experts to do stuff instead of taking a bag of quickrete and doing adult arts and crafts...

These awesome gym's accepted our challenge of doing squats all last week to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association - Alzheimer's Association - Hawaiist squats for the week also earned additional funds to donate.

We designated Alzheimer's Association - Alzheimer's Association - Hawaiionnection to Alzheimer's and our hope that one day there will be a cure.

Here is our annual why Alzheimer's disease and related dementia are the worst and finding a cure would be awesome.

This is the Sue we remember. This also the Sue that Alzheimer's disease took away from us slowly.

At first it was quirky. She was always a little forgetful. Then it turned into leaving little piles of tomato skins on couch arms. Then it got a little dangerous, like trying to cook rice in the rice cooker by putting the rice directly in without the pot. She wanted to go to Vegas one more time. She was fine. Everyone else was freaked out because they couldn't find her for a while.

Mixed in with the sadness of missing her, there's also bitterness and anger. She worked hard her entire life and she didn't get a good chance to kick back and enjoy everything she built. By the time she started to retire, the forgetting already began.

Alzheimer's disease doesn't just affect the individual. It leaves its mark on entire families. We turned into caregivers and ad hoc support groups. You'd hear about someone else with a family member that has it and then bump into them. You used to have to share notes and tips in the bread aisle. Now there's Alzheimer's Association - Hawaii that helps support caregivers and those affected.

In Sue's case, her two brothers also had Alzheimer's disease, making this a family inheritance no one wanted. That knowledge definitely shapes your life in a few ways.

We're aware that we may not personally benefit from a cure, but we're holding out for a future where what Sue and our family went through is not a possibility anymore.

What can we do today to build towards that future? A good place to start would be to follow Alzheimer's Association - Hawaii - on their website you can learn about the disease, find support as someone that has Alzheimer's or as a caregiver, read where research is right now, and how to get more involved.

We're currently collecting change at the registers, and our more in shape friends are doing squats to fundraise to support the work that Alzheimer's Association - Hawaii does.

Other than that, if you have a story just like ours about Sue, know that you're not alone.

Fun fact - squats are beneficial for Alzheimer's prevention and management. They stimulate blood flow while also releasing critical proteins that protect neurons. Lower body strength training can reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

They've all graciously agreed to battle it out in support of Alzheimer's Association - Alzheimer's Association - Hawaiia lot of squats. For every squat their members do this week, Puk Sup will donate a quarter, up to $500 for each gym. The first gym to reach the max will get an additional $500 added to their donation.
