Did you hear? Volunteers sign-ups are open for our winter Power of Produce (POP) Club booth. Children ages 2-12 who try a seasonal fruit or vegetable receive a $3 market coupon to spend on any fresh fruits or vegetables. That is a guaranteed win-win!

POP Club offers two volunteer shifts: 9:45 am-Noon and Noon-2:15 pm. Both shifts require standing outside in all kinds of weather, chatting with kids, and engaging with the public. You leave with a feeling of satisfaction and probably a few amusing anecdotes!

Do you like to play with your food? Help engage market-goers ages 2-12 at our Power of Produce (POP) Club booth!

Volunteers prepare and offer taste-tests of produce during our winter season, October 25 through April. For their adventurousness, children receive a $3 coupon to spend on any fresh fruits or vegetables at the market!

POP Club offers two volunteer shifts: 9:45am-Noon and Noon-2:15pm. Both shifts require standing outside in all kinds of weather, chatting with kids, and engaging with the public. Cooking skills, food safety experience, and familiarity with local produce are a major plus!

💥Vendor Spotlight: The Ground Market

During the month of October they’re offering 20% off all sausages (link and ground), so stop by and grab a few varieties to keep on hand for satiating meals throughout the winter months.

Recently known at the market as Source Farms, The Ground Market was born in the Willamette Valley, when Tabula Rasa Farms and Kookoolan Farms teamed up. The goal was specific and equally shared: to change the way people eat via delicious, responsibly-raised food.

That’s the mantra that continues to guide their work today, which now includes several farms throughout the valley and sustainably-caught seafood from the nearby Pacific Ocean. They believe in leveraging both their agroecology experience and their tight partnerships to create a better food system. You can visit their neighborhood market, restaurant, and gathering place in the heart of downtown Carlton, Oregon, and stay in one of their well-appointed rooms at their inn, or a spacious, fully-outfitted farmhouse nearby.

As many area farmers markets begin to close down for the season, we want to be sure to remind you that we will be here EVERY SUNDAY through December 20th! In a time of so much change and uncertainty, it’s reassuring to know that your favorite local growers and makers will be right where you expect them, as dependable as the kick in your morning coffee and as comforting as that favorite knit beanie you get to start wearing again.

September is Hunger Action Month, an opportunity to highlight one of the market programs closest to our hearts: Double Up Food Bucks from Farmers Market Fund.
For farmers market shoppers using SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks provides a dollar-for-dollar match—up to $20 each market day—for fresh fruits and vegetables. That can mean twice as much seasonal produce for people facing increasingly complex and difficult budget decisions. And the program’s impact extends well beyond an individual grocery bag: it supports local farmers with dependable sales while keeping food dollars circulating in our regional economy.♻️

Who receives SNAP?
🥔Most SNAP households include someone vulnerable. In FY 2023, 79% included a child, an older adult, or a nonelderly person with a disability.

🍎An estimated 15.7 million workers received SNAP 2022, or roughly 10% of all U.S. workers. Among SNAP households with a working-age, nondisabled adult in 2021, 86% had earnings that year. SNAP often supplements wages that don’t cover basic needs. SNAP supports vulnerable people and millions of workers whose wages—even at major corporations like Walmart and Amazon—aren’t enough to cover basic needs.

🗳️☎️The next Farm Bill must reflect that reality—not punish people for being poor or working in low-wage jobs. Call your members of Congress. Tell them to protect and strengthen SNAP, reject harmful cuts and work requirements, and ensure that benefits keep pace with the real cost of food and living.
