Don Van De Werken, owner of JD Blueberry Farm, and his crew are picking blueberries with their mobile harvester, racing to get ready for one of their biggest events of the year, the Blueberry Jubilee.

Van De Werken has been farming these 14 acres for more than two decades. He said the Jubilee has grown every year, but the number of farms supplying it has shrunk dramatically.

Pickin berries between downpours and rain is not fun for 2026. The quality of berries is down tremendously due to the amount of rain! Trying to salvage what we can. It’ll be a real short season this year.

We are pleased to provide an update on the 2026 harvest at our farm. Unfortunately, the March 16 freeze had a significant impact on our tea and blueberry crops, with blueberry yields estimated to be down 50% compared to last year. The tea harvest will be slightly delayed due to the prolonged drought affecting the first flush of tea leaves. However, the recent four-day rainfall is expected to greatly benefit our crops, and blueberries should start ripening soon, albeit in 2-3 weeks. Tea harvest is anticipated to commence in a couple of weeks. In an effort to diversify, we have planted a small field of mid-south grapes, although it will take a couple of years for them to mature. Our pear crop is expected to yield a half crop, with any excess pears being used to produce pear cider. We are excited to announce the launch of new packaging for our blueberry juice, which is now available in approximately 25 stores across Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, thanks to the support of our distributor.
