Last harvest from the West Greene pawpaw patch this year, fruits are large and quite beautiful. I planted these trees in 2017 as very young trees so it’s gratifying to see them produce a small crop this year. We are looking towards a big harvest one of these years as long as we can avoid spring freezes! This year we have some volunteers coming up from a few of the trees so the plan is to mulch those so it will turn into more of a pawpaw patch than an orchard.

Harvesting pawpaws from our farm in western Greene County, we planted these trees in 2017 as little whips and they are just now starting to harvest in some quantity. Have you tried this native Appalachian fruit?

The first pawpaws of the season going out to customers tomorrow!

This foraged Appalachian fruit is hard to come by at a traditional store because it was never bred for mass production.

The flavor is custardy - almost like a banana or mango - but it’s endemic to Appalachia.

We think we will have more coming in next week, so stay tuned for a second drop if you missed the first one!
