Flavor of the week: Raspberry Peach

Flavors available this week:

Peach Mango Habanero

I made homemade meatballs and simmered them in one of my favorite jam flavors that we make:

Meatballs (I prefer homemade) but they can be freezer
1 cup of sweet baby rays BBQ sauce (or your personal favorite)
1 jar of our Mango Peach Habanero Jam
2 tablespoons of wash your sister sauce 🤭, I never miss an opportunity to say that lol
A sprinkle of chili 🌶️ flakes (sprinkle to your liking of extra heat)

Simmer on low

We will be in the 100 block of Louisiana Ave. (the block closest to the river). We can’t wait to be a part of this. This week we are trialing some new flavors of jam that we may introduce. We will also be coming up with a cookie lineup for the beginning of the season. Still keeping an eye on the extended forecast to see when it will be safe to have some of the more warm-weather seedlings outside.

IT’S OFFICIAL!!!

Yesterday on our drive home from North Carolina we received an email from the Perrysburg Chamber of Commerce, notifying us that our application was accepted and approved for the 2026 Perrysburg Farmer’s Market.

We will be offering a variety of things throughout the market season, including: seedlings, fresh produce, honey, baked goods such as cookies and other sweets, and many other rotating options depending on the time of year.

I also hope to make this a somewhat educational experience for all of us. I don’t just want to sell you something and that be the end of it. I want us to learn from each other and grow relationships, not just impersonal transactions.

We can’t wait to see everyone on each Thursday starting May 7th in downtown Perrysburg.

It’s one of my favorite times of the year. Last week was the beginning of new life. There will be an expanded seed starting focus this year in anticipation of our inaugural season at the Perrysburg farmers market.

We are also looking to grow more intentionally for food preservation purposes, meaning more fruit and vegetables to cure (onions and potatoes) or can.

In addition to the food side of expansion, there will also be an increase in flower production. There will be a native garden started to help with pollination and to provide homes and nesting opportunities for not only pollinators, but birds and butterflies. You may also find some flower bouquets and individually cut flowers at our booth.

There is a lot of excitement happening for us and we can’t wait to let everyone else enjoy it with us.

Made a few additions to the growing space. We added 24 feet of raised beds (which you can see between the hives) and finally set up and filled two vertical planters. The raised beds will also be used for vertical growing. The plan is to add PVC piping and have two 24’ rows of vining plants. As of now, I’m going to have tomatoes, peas, beans, okra, loofah gourd, and peppers. There may be a few other additions if space allows.

Update on things happening with the garden and greenhouse. Benches are complete in the greenhouse, and as you can see, all of the early seed starts have been transitioned to the greenhouse and hardened off. Three of the citrus trees are in their new home as well. There are some later seed starts that will begin to be hardened off and transplanted.

I have quite a few extra tomato and pepper plants, in multiple varieties, as well as some herbs and other veggies if anyone is interested in starting something of their own.

As to the topic of starting something of your own, I’m in the beginning stages of adding a garden coach/mentor/designer aspect to the business. This came about after a discussion with my mom. She recently sent me a text with a question about tomatoes and what kind to plant and where. I went on a detailed soliloquy about all things tomatoes. After I hung up the phone, I quickly had an epiphany that I love talking about all things vegetables and gardening, and most importantly teaching about all the aspects and intricacies of growing food.

If you want to start a garden and aren’t sure where to start, I’d like to assist you with that. Whether you want some basic information about vegetables, location of where to start it, inground, raised beds, or planters/bags, or anything else, I’d love to talk to you and come up with a plan to get you started on your journey. Now is the perfect time to get things started as we are most likely going to be frost-free until later this year.

The new raised beds are filled and ready to go. Cattle panel trellis for the vining veggies is installed. Arbor trellis with planter boxes had lattice and lights installed to complete that project. Climbing roses and grapevines planted. Bee hives are built and ready for some bees. Trying to be patient and wait for the last frost date in a few weeks so I can start transplanting and sowing.

Got the final box built for the arbor trellis. The magnolia and lilacs are planted and there’s a lot more to do before we leave for vacation.

First batch of soil mixed. Equal parts peat moss, vermiculite, and compost. I also added 25 pounds of worm castings to beef up the mix. Filled the round raised bed and got the fig tree transplanted. Bird feeders got hung and filled. The posts weren’t set enough to finish the arbor trellis so that will wait for another day (probably tomorrow).

A couple weeks ago, Lindsay sent me a picture of a tree she saw that she really liked. For a little backstory, when we were in Hot Springs NP, the streets were lined with magnolia trees. She collected some of the fallen leaves, each unique in color and appearance. She loved the trees and as a Mother’s Day gift, I got her one. A couple months later we had a storm and the tree snapped at the base. It developed a couple shoots at ground level but never came back at all. While at Lowe’s getting some other items, I spotted an interesting looking tree which was just beginning to bud. I stopped, looked at the tag, and as luck would have it, it was the same tree she sent me a picture of. Of course I had to bring it home with me. The last picture is of one of the buds. It is beginning to open and you can see why it is called a black tulip magnolia. I can’t wait to get it in the ground in place of the lost magnolia and watch it grow.
