We welcome Heidi and Bekah from Suikerspin Cotton Candy at this week's Pella Farmers' Market as our featured vendors! They create all the sweet magic at the south end of the Market by the windmill. It is no surprise that there is often a gathering of happy customers lined up to taste the sweet spun sugar that they offer in 18 flavors!

Straight from Heidi and Bekah's hearts:

"Suikerspin Cotton Candy was created out of a simple idea: we couldn't find fresh-spun cotton candy anywhere nearby, and we thought it would be fun to bring it to local markets and community events. What started as a small venture quickly grew as we discovered how much we enjoyed creating our own homemade flavors and offering a more unique, elevated cotton candy experience.

As word spread, customers began inviting us to their parties, celebrations, and special events. Before long, we found ourselves becoming part of countless first cotton candy experiences for children, bringing back nostalgic memories for older generations, and helping families celebrate some of life's most important milestones.

Suikerspin is a mother-daughter business run by Heidi and Bekah. With all of her children grown, Heidi enjoys staying active and connected to the community through a business that brings joy to others. Bekah is a stay-at-home mom who will soon be welcoming her third daughter, and Suikerspin helps support her family while allowing her to continue being present at home with her children.

At the end of the day, Suikerspin Cotton Candy is about more than just spun sugar. It's a way for us to connect with our community, celebrate alongside our customers, and bring a little extra fun and sweetness wherever we go."

Our VENDOR SPOTLIGHT this evening promotes Mahaska Native Plants !

Mahaska Native Plants is an initiative by the Mahaska County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), frequently hosting native plant sales to promote local biodiversity. These plant sales feature native Iowa flowers and grasses at highly affordable prices, often around $3 each, to help residents build pollinator-friendly gardens.

Popular native plants native to the Mahaska County area include:
• Forbs/Wildflowers: Butterfly milkweed, prairie blazing star, golden alexander, New England aster, and wild geranium.
• Grasses: Little bluestem, Indian grass, and Canada wild rye.
• Trees/Shrubs: Black willow and wild plum.

Where to Find Them
• Pella Farmers’ Market, of course!
• Mahaska County Environmental Learning Center: Hosts SWCD plant sales where you can shop from a selection of over 20 native varieties. After major kickoff events, passive sales are often available using a scan-and-pay system on-site.

Check them out this evening, or follow their social media at:

Week 3 of the Market is shaping up to be a fun and educational evening as we dig into this week’s theme: The Dirt on Gardening 🌱

Whether our vendors grow it, bake it, create it, sew it, preserve it, or craft it — this week is all about celebrating the hands, creativity, and care that help things grow in our community.

We’re also excited this week to welcome a Master Gardener to the Market! Community members will have the opportunity to stop by, ask gardening questions, and learn more about planting, growing, and caring for their gardens throughout the season. We hope this becomes another great way to encourage you to linger, learn, and engage with our vendors.
