Yesterday, Shawn made the first delivery of the season, officially launching the 2026 Bag of Basics 6-week program at the Paoli Gardens housing unit, where 36 bags were distributed to residents. Additional deliveries will follow this summer in Orleans, French Lick, and Jasper as the program continues to expand across the community.

The Bag of Basics program provides free essential food items to local residents in need. Through Lost River Co-op and the Orange County Food Trust, we continue to serve individuals and families facing food insecurity with hot meals and food support, made possible by generous local donors.

As the need continues to grow, we’re looking for more ways to reach neighbors who could use a helping hand. One way to make an immediate impact is by supporting the Orange County Food Trust’s Bag of Basics program, which also helps strengthen our local economy by sourcing from growers and producers within 50 miles of Paoli, IN.

Communities do not become known for what they wish they had. They become known for what they choose to support.

This Friday, May 29th, is the Grand Opening of Market in the Park at Paoli Community Park.

As a community, this is an opportunity to help build something that can grow into a real asset for Paoli.

Over the last few years, Paoli has had its ups and downs, but moments like this matter because they help shape what we become next. Events like a farmers market, community gatherings, festivals, and local vendor spaces don’t just happen. They grow when people decide to show up, support them, and make them part of their routine.

The reality is this: if we want more things to do, more local opportunities, and more reasons to gather as a community, we have to support the things that are trying to create exactly that. When people stop showing up, events fade, businesses struggle, and momentum is lost. When people consistently show up, invest their time, and spend their money locally, those same things grow into traditions.

We have to be intentional about what we support. What we choose to invest in becomes what we build our community around. That is how places develop identity, how they become known for “their thing.” Not because a small group decided it should exist, but because the community decided it was worth showing up for again and again.

Market in the Park has the potential to become one of those staples for Paoli, something we can be proud of, something that supports local vendors, and something that gives people a place to gather and connect.

We hope to see a strong turnout tomorrow night for the grand opening. More than that, we hope this is just the beginning of something the community chooses to grow together.

Let’s invest in what we want to see more of.
