Our LGD puppies are always supervised or have restricted access for at minimum the first 6-9 months. Basically your job as a human is to make sure they don’t develop bad habits while they grow into their instincts. Gus is now 4 years old and I fondly call him “the baby dragon” because he sometimes makes dragon noises and guards the queen aka Mama in the castle (the house). He takes his job very seriously but is the bestest boy.

Cream rides thick at the neck of these glass bottles, filled a short walk from the barn on six Nebraska family farms. Shake first.

Would you pay $17.95 for a gallon of milk? 🥛👀

That's what Mindy McGrew charges at Little Red Farm in Nebraska. And she's not apologizing for it.

What started with a few backyard chickens has grown into a business selling farm-raised food directly to families.

In the latest episode of Building Nebraska, Mindy talks about the price of milk, the realities of farming seven days a week, and what it actually takes to make a small farm financially sustainable.

Because loving what you do is one thing. Making a living doing it is another.

And Mindy isn't afraid to talk about both.

🎙️ Hear her story in the latest episode of Building Nebraska, powered by the Engler Program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Just a random Tuesday night around the Little Red Farm. The hardest part about livestock farming is that it is EVERY single day ALL year long. There’s no, I’ll skip it today or I don’t feel like it. Sometimes the heifer needs to be ai’d even after a long day because if you don’t it’s another 3 weeks until her breeding window opens again. Just a little glimpse into life on the farm.

All our animals stay here. They either become milk cows or after 2 years of living their best life they go to freezer camp and return home as food.

New water feature 🫣 Road is passable at the moment. But obviously use common sense in water logged areas people

My dreams as a kid were to be a writer and a zoo keeper. I’ve written our homestead guide and I pretty much own a whole zoo so we can check those dreams off the list!
