Amen!
My thoughts from the tractor seat.
The best Christmas presents.
When I was a kid we looked forward to Christmas even though we knew times were lean, we all knew we would get the much needed necessities like underwear, socks, shirts, britches and maybe a new pair of boots. But mom and dad also knew we’d like something that would make us jump with joy… not a necessity, but something a bit more luxurious and exciting.
There are two things that I’ve cherished the most, and have gotten the most use of down through the years. One is something I kept but never really fully appreciated until I got a little bit older… much older. But, it has stayed with me all these years, and maybe it’s been taken for granted and not used a whole lot until I got wiser and smarter… it was a Bible that I got many years ago.
The other has been a part of me ever since I got it, and as I’ve gotten older I feel plumb naked without it.
I’ve lost a few in airports and have been fortunate enough to be able to mail myself some home from airports, because I habitually carry one all the time. You guessed it… a pocket knife.
When I moved away from home and went on a job interview, the first thing the boss man asked me was “you got a pocket knife?” I nodded yes, “Can I see it?”
I was puzzled why this man wanted to see my knife, but I pulled it out and handed it over. He opened the first blade and felt the edge, handed it back and said “be here at 7 Monday morning”.
As the old American
Express card commercial goes… I never leave home without it.
So if you’re wondering what to get either a young man or a young lady for Christmas, I highly recommend either, or both… a Bible or a pocket knife. I’m sure both will be appreciated… even though one may take a little longer than the other… as in my case, but over time both are useful tools that can come in handy in all sorts of situations throughout a lifetime… I still use and cherish them both. But a couple of things everyone in this crazy world ought to use a little more often.
Merry Christmas.
