What does shopping local really look like? A 2026 Opp Farmers Market Impact Report
Sometimes when we're in the middle of setting up every Saturday, watching the ever changing weather, planning special events, or simply trying to keep our market going, it's easy to lose sight of what it all adds up to.
So as we close out the 2026 Opp Farmers Market season, we wanted to share the numbers.
Based on sales information reported by our vendors, the average vendor generated approximately $414 in gross sales per market week. When we apply that average to vendor participation throughout our season, the Opp Farmers Market generated an estimated $243,596 in direct vendor sales! Using a conservative local economic multiplier of 1.5, that represents approximately $365,395 in total estimated local economic impact!
Money spent at a farmers market works differently than money spent through a traditional retail chain. When you buy directly from the person who grew it, baked it, made it, or produced it, more of that purchase stays with that small business and those dollars continue moving locally.
There are also a lot of people behind these numbers: This season, the Opp Farmers Market welcomed 54 unique vendors. We held 36 market days, 21 Saturdays, 12 Wednesdays, and 3 Friday Night Markets. We averaged 23 vendors every Saturday and 21 vendors at our Friday Night Markets. Altogether, the market provided approximately 588 individual selling opportunities for farmers, growers, bakers, makers, and small businesses. On an average Saturday alone, an estimated $9,500 in direct vendor sales took place under our pavilion.
None of these numbers can happen without our vendors and they certainly don't happen without a community willing to show up and support them!
We want to give a BIG THANK YOU to every vendor who set up at our market, to every customer who came and shopped, and every person who shared our posts to help get the word out about our wonderful market! Opp is truly the best place to call home and we like to think we have one of the BEST Farmers Markets in the state!
