We love our Food Box Distribution days!! There’s such good energy from our volunteers and staff as we pack boxes with gorgeous foods both grown at Ursula’s Farm and sourced from various local farmers.

These photos are from last Thursday, and we still have an abundance of food available!

We currently have a variety of produce and other food items at the Fish House that are available to you if you need groceries this week and next. Lots of apples, spinach, carrots, kohlrabi, radishes, bell peppers, greens, squash, and other things including jams, syrup, pickled pike, and some frozen meats. If you are in need, please stop by the Fish House during the week from 8am - 4pm. Bring a bag or box if you can, and Linton will get you set up.

We’re excited to share this opportunity with you for an evening with Robin Greenfield!

For one year Robin Greenfield foraged every bite of his food and medicine. A year without grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies or even a garden with “Nature” as his garden! Is it possible to eat in harmony with Earth and live in reciprocity? Robin wholeheartedly believes so and is putting this love and devotion for Earth into bold action as he harvests the food and medicine that is growing freely and abundantly all around us.

He is traveling to our community to share his foraging journey and celebrate the individuals and organizations in our community working for a more resilient, local food system. He will also share about the 1 Million Community Fruit Trees Initiative and invite us to get involved in this grassroots collaborative effort in food sovereignty.

Join us for an eye-opening exploration of food sovereignty through the food and medicine that is growing abundantly all around us. Come out to build your knowledge, your skills, and your community!

We have copies of Robin’s “Food Freedom” book available at Food Sovereignty for free for anyone who would like one!

Please share about this event. Everyone is welcome 🙂

We had such a lovely Grand Opening and native tree planting yesterday - Chi miigwech to everyone who came and made it so special. Thank you to Arbor Day Foundation and to the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, Mayra, Hunter, and James!

It’s incredibly heartwarming to experience this type of community support and to know that those who participated will be able to come back and visit the tree they planted with their family and friends!

We also have a lot more fruit trees that need homes! Please reach out to me and/or stop by Food Sovereignty this week to get a tree. You do have to “register” for the tree as we are keeping records, so please see one of our staff members when you come.

Hey Everyone,

Just a reminder, we have our Grand Opening and Tree Planting coming up this Saturday at 10am at Food Sovereignty! We’ll be planting 50 native trees behind our two high tunnels and would love your help! Bring your favorite shovel, gloves, and water bottle.

Huge thanks to the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation and Arbor Day Foundation for this opportunity. We have 100 fruit trees for give-a-way! One fruit tree per household. Must be a Bad River tribal member. The trees are different varieties of apples, pears, and cherries! There will also be another opportunity to get a fruit tree in the Spring if you miss this round.

We hope to see you on Saturday! There will be door prizes, snacks, and a market of fresh produce in addition to the trees!

Our Fruit Tree Planting and Giveaway that’s happening on October 3rd is part of a larger organized effort to plant multiple orchards in Red Cliff, Bad River, and the Manitou Makoons farm on the island. We’re so grateful to work with the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation and Arbor Day Foundation for this incredible opportunity! We look forward to planting trees together 🤗

Boozhoo!

In an inter communal Anishinaabe effort we are teaming up with the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation & Arbor Foundation to grow three community orchards that will provide beauty and fresh fruit for generations! One in Bad River at Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa , one in Red Cliff at Mino Bimaadiziiwin Gitigaanin, and one on Mooningwanekaaning (Madeline Island’s Manitou Makoons Gitigan) and we need your energy to make it happen.

Join us at Mino Bimaadiziiwin Gitigaanin on October 1st, Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa on October 3rd or at Manitou Makoons on October 4th, all at 10am for a high-energy day of digging, planting, and learning. FTPF’s expert arborists will even be on-site leading workshops so you can master everything from the perfect planting technique to long-term tree aftercare.

Grab your gloves, water, hat (and your favorite shovel if you have one) and let’s get our hands dirty to create a thriving, edible landscape for everyone to enjoy!

We hope to see you there!
