Sweet? Spanish Sweet? Storage?

What’s the difference and which do I choose? All that and more at Snake River Produce!

The main reason “sweet” onions taste sweeter than other onions when raw is they are low in sulfur compounds, especially pyruvic acid, which gives regular Spanish, or “storage” onions their pungency.

Pyruvic acid accounts for the intensity of flavor when eating raw onions. Because they are milder, sweet onions are a great choice for eating raw, and storage onions - sometimes called “Spanish Sweets” are the best choice for cooking and caramelizing.

Snake River Produce offers both “sweet” and Spanish Sweet onions from August to April.
