More exciting news about our Clinch River Pavilion & Farmers Market project - construction materials have started to arrive!! 🥳
🗓️ SAVE THE DATE - Friday, May 1, 2026 has been tentatively set for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of this project.
This project is a culmination of a year-long collaboration of Town administrative staff and the Town Industrial/Economic Development Authority, who worked diligently with community representatives to understand the needs, and with area representatives and grant funders to determine the best way to achieve these goals.
The completed project will include a pavilion to be utilized by both the community and the Tazewell Farmers Market, along with a fun river walk on the bank of the adjacent Clinch River. The completed structure will include a prep kitchen and restroom facilities.
🏆 Vital resource & funding providers making this day possible:
🔹 Virginia Economic Development Partnership's Brownfield Restoration & Economic Redevelopment Assistance Fund (VBAF) through Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) award of $50,000.00 for the demolition of the former bowling alley and the asbestos remediation. DEQ provided additional funding for the community listening sessions to plan the pavilion's design.
🔹 Virginia To***co Region Revitalization Commission funding of $296,500.00 to be used toward construction of the pavilion.
🔹 Matching funds from the Town of Tazewell's Town Council to meet the $296,500.00 match needed for the Virginia To***co Region Revitalization Commission funding.
🔹 Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund Infrastructure Grant Program (AFID) funding of $28,244.00 to be used toward construction of the pavilion.
🔹 Cumberland Forest Community Fund funding of $15,000.00 to be used toward construction of a river walk.
🔹 Cumberland Plateau Regional Opportunity Program (CPROP)
funding of $50,000.00, to be utilized for addressing the parking needs of the pavilion.
🔹 Though not specific to this project, we received an additional $50,000 planning grant from the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development, which has been used to develop a plan for some of the blighted business properties in the vicinity of the Clinch River Pavilion & Farmer's Market. With the outcome of this planning grant, we can then apply for DHCD's Community Development Block Grant funding to hopefully be awarded between $1.5 to $2 million dollars to make many needed repairs and improvements to the facades of the affected business properties identified in the planning grant.
