It is Saturday which means Country Road bees is at the Farmers Market of Gretna. The 2026 honey harvest is just starting and we have our Spring Delight in stock. A light and fruity honey with a hint of licorice, don’t ask where that is coming from, maybe the Uzo I was also tasting. This year, we have added the Italian dessert Panna Cotta and of course our chickens finest eggs. Hope to see you here.

IT IS SOUR CHERRY SEASON. This morning I picked the first sour cherries of the season and expect them to ripen over the next 7 to 10 days.

They were sprayed 6 weeks ago with a pesticide to reduce cherry worms.

If you plan on picking, bring a ladder or step stool and a container to take them home. I have pails to pick into.

It is Friday which means Country Road Bees is at the Gifford Park Neighborhood Market. Douglas County has changed its policies regarding farm eggs so we have brought a few dozen from our free range chickens.

It's May 16 and the main honey flow is only a few weeks away. Here are a few minor nectar sources blooming today at Country Road Bees. Nectar from the Wild Mustard and Dutch White clover is most going to building colony strength. Will this bee the year for Black Locust Honey? I hope so. I'll know because it is nearly as clear as water. USDA Grade is Water White. Very rare around these parts. If you have a high density of this blooming near you, let me know in the comments.

I'm sold on compost rather than store bought fertilizer. Feed to soil, not the plant. Chicken manure is too hot to add directly to a garden. By this fall, the straw and yard waste will be broken down into a soil building, plant growing, wonder. Who needs petroleum based fertilizers when you have chickens.
