If you're making a day of the North Iowa Local Food Trail - Sat. August 23, 2025, you'll need to plan a stop to refuel (your tummy!)

We're excited to have Piggyback Smoke Shack join this year's trail with a special BREAKFAST AND LUNCH popup in their Back Alley Smoke Shack.

Piggyback Smoke Shack, owned by Chef Jessica Baldus, is an elevated food concept providing smoked meats and sides, salads and desserts via back-alley pop ups and catering opportunities.

This pop up will be for both breakfast and lunch, stationary food truck style.

Drive-up, walk-up, sit & stay, or take &go. Find them at the back alley entrance of the 715 Main building in Osage. (Parking also available on the alley side.)

North Iowa Local Food Trail - Sat. August 23, 2025 host intro #3!

SkyView Market in Nora Springs is an online and on-farm grocery store offering SkyView Beef and locally raised products from over 60 Iowa producers. They host Friday in-store shopping hours, online ordering for a weekly delivery route to Mason City and Clear Lake plus a once monthly Saturday Farm Market event.

The mission at SkyView Market is to help customers spend less time in the kitchen and more time around the table with loved ones by making sourcing an all-local meal EASY from one location.

In store this weekend you’ll find beef, pork, turkey, eggs, produce, dairy, baked goods, seasonings, ready made meals, self care items, kitchen goods and gift items. Make plans to visit SkyView from 9-3 this weekend. The taste-test station will be chef inspired with lots of ideas for great meals to enjoy.

Our next trail host introduction is Twisted River Farm in Mitchell, Iowa.

Twisted River Farm is a five acre market farm in Mitchell, IA run by Steve and Marcy Strasheim. TRF grows vegetables, microgreens, and flowers semi-year-round using organic practices. Their produce is available through their CSA box program, on-farm store, local grocery stores, farmers markets, and local restaurants.

Last year Steve's taste test station was voted trail fan favorite! He's got new ideas up his sleeve for this year so make sure to bring a cooler and your taste buds to this stop on the trail!

Following the trail to Floyd, Iowa during the North Iowa Local Food Trail - Sat. August 23, 2025, guests will find Reiff's Farmstand. Established in 2014, guests are invited to stop in and browse their selection of fresh produce, potted plants, trees, and shrubs. They are also a local fall decor headquarters with planters and mums, pumpkins and other decor, fresh eggs and bulk mulch.

It's North Iowa Local Food Trail - Sat. August 23, 2025 week! And time to share more about the stops and sweet finds waiting along the trail.

First up: Mossycup Farms in rural Clear Lake, Iowa.

Owned by Laura Tidrick and family, Mossycup Farms raises heritage breed pork, free-range geese, ducks, turkeys and chickens for meat and eggs.

Mossycup Farms takes its name from the huge, old mossycup oaks covering the property. Also known as bur oak, the trees drop plenty of acorns with fringed caps that look like “mossy cups.”

The family also produces pure-white lard for cooking, handmade lard soaps & skincare products and signature seasoning blends that are used in their sausages and also sold as dry mixes for use at home.

While the on-farm store is typically self-serve during open hours, the Tidrick family will be hosting from 9-3 during trail day. Come and meet the Tidricks and sample some great products made from farm-raised ingredients.
