~Our Story ~ Our Products~

Your local connection for seasonal, sustain-ably grown, farm fresh produce, eggs, and chickens. Our mission is to bring back the connection of farm to table, one family at a time. We want you to see where your food is grown and how it is grown. With love, compassion, and care of the animals, land and environment. For me the love of farming started at infancy. I grew up on a traditional family farm south of Clear Lake, IA. I had a wonderful childhood. We worked very hard as a small, diverse, traditional family farm. We traveled the country showing cows, always showed pigs at the local county fair for FFA, and entered multiple projects for the county fair for 4-H. We were taught work ethic, animal husbandry, sustainable land management and the joys, and the hardships of farming in general. I moved off of the farm in my early 20’s and was so happy to escape it. Not because I hated it, because I was ready to experience the world as a young adult. Upon moving into Clear Lake I soon discovered my disdain for living in town. My husband and I went ahead and bought a house in town anyways. 7 years later I just couldn't take living in town anymore, and neither could my husband. He always wanted to live in the country and was always out on the farm helping us while we were dating in Jr. High and High school. August 28th, 2008 (which also happens to be our anniversary!) we closed on our acreage. But, going back to my farming roots hadn't really been nagging at me yet at that point maybe it was just escaping being in town - or was it? Another year or so and I realized, that is what had been bothering me all along. I needed my hands in the dirt, my hands running through the hair on some cows, chickens following me around the yard begging for treats, sweet little piglets grunting while their Mom is feeding them. That is what I had been missing all along. My Dad has told me so many times “You are Grandma Petersen reincarnated, she could never keep her hands out of the dirt.” he tells me. 11 years later and one dream summer under my belt providing fresh, healthy food to a community I love so much and that my families roots are so deeply planted in. Most of my Moms side of the family is originally from Nora Springs, and all I can say is it’s so good to be back. I am so excited to keep meeting new people and providing you with local, farm to table experiences. I want to share that joy and connection with so many people! I am so excited to start our 2019 Garden season! I hope this helps you all get to know us a little better. We will have a few exciting announcements as soon as we get closer to planting season. Until then, stay tuned and remember, we’re bringing back the connection of farm to table one family at a time.

We never use any pesticides, herbicides. We fertilize our garden the all natural way. We offer a wide variety of farm fresh garden produce at affordable prices for everyone. Imagine going to a farmers market or the grocery store, all offered in one stop, by one vendor!

All of our chicks are purchased from Hoovers Hatchery in Rudd, IA, a mere 7 miles east of us and raised by hand. Chickens are raised free range with the option of consuming feed at their leisure. We offer eggs year round and our meat chickens are offered once a year and are processed at Martzahns in Greene, IA.

We also offer purebred Berkshire Pork. Berkshires are an old world breed of pork that has a perfect balance of fat and leanness content for cooking and grilling. The pigs are raised by my parents Chris and Kristi Petersen on their farm South of Clear Lake. When you open a package of Berkshire pork chops and grill them you will never go back. And then there is the Bacon, oh so perfect for BLT’s with fresh tomatoes from our garden! Berkshires are raised sustain-ably in open huts and buildings outside free to roam, they eat and bask in the sun as they please. Berkshire Hogs are offered for sale approximately 4 times a year sold by the half or whole. All of our Berkshires are processed at S&S Locker in Osage, IA. Keep and eye out for postings on Becky’s Barn page if this is something you are interested in.
