Your body whispers before it shouts.

Afternoon energy dips — B-complex and iron are worth checking. Nighttime leg cramps — magnesium intake may be low. Dry, slow-to-heal skin — vitamin E and omega-3s play a role. Low mood in darker months — vitamin D3 + K2 get the spotlight. Brain fog — B12 and omega-3s matter here.

None of this is a diagnosis — but it is a reason to bring your supplement label in and talk it through. — Craig Cauley, CRPhT, NHC, Natural Health Consultant

Curcumin is a major group of naturally occurring compounds in turmeric—and the product formula can matter as much as the ingredient name.
Research has found encouraging early results for some osteoarthritis measures, including knee pain, stiffness, mobility, and function. Because studies have used different extracts, doses, and absorption strategies, label details matter and findings cannot automatically be generalized to every product.
NCCIH
When comparing curcumin supplements, review:
Extract: Is turmeric powder, turmeric extract, or a curcuminoid amount identified?
Serving: What amount is supplied by the complete labeled serving?
Delivery: Does the formula describe an absorption or bioavailability strategy?
Quality: Are lot details, expiration, manufacturer information, and independent testing available?
Fit: Does the product match your goals, medicines, health conditions, and care plan?
Curcumin should complement appropriate medical care, movement, nutrition, and prescribed treatment. Ask a pharmacist or prescriber before use if you take medicines, are pregnant, have liver or gallbladder concerns, or are preparing for surgery.

N-acetylcysteine—better known as NAC—supplies cysteine, an amino-acid building block the body uses to make glutathione, an important part of its antioxidant network.
NAC also has a long history of conventional medical use as a mucolytic medicine. In a six-month randomized, double-blind trial involving 262 mostly older adults, 600 mg twice daily did not prevent influenza infection, but it was associated with fewer and less severe influenza-like illnesses. That study offers a useful signal—not a promise that an over-the-counter supplement will prevent or treat influenza.
An evidence-informed NAC plan connects:
Purpose: What specific wellness goal are you addressing?
Product: What amount, serving size, quality standard, and timing fit the plan?
Follow-up: Is there a measurable response, good tolerance, and appropriate care-team input?
NAC supplements may cause digestive upset and are not a substitute for vaccination, prescribed treatment, or medical evaluation. Ask a pharmacist or prescriber before use if you take prescription medicines, have asthma or another significant condition, are pregnant, or are preparing for surgery.
Vassalage Wellness Shop helps connect the evidence to the product label and your complete wellness plan—so consultation adds clarity rather than merely adding another bottle.

Vitamin D labels may use two units.

For vitamin D, 1 microgram (mcg) equals 40 International Units (IU). That means the 5,000 IU named in MegaFood Vitamin D3 5,000 + K2 equals 125 mcg. Before changing your routine, compare the amount from every source you use and consider whether testing or clinician guidance applies to you. More is not automatically better.

Open today 12:00–6:00 PM — bring your current vitamin D labels and compare them with the MegaFood Vitamin D3 5,000 + K2 label. Or call (716) 298-7156 to schedule a consultation with Craig Cauley, CRPhT, NHC, Natural Health Consultant.

Three questions before you buy a supplement:
1. What exact ingredient and form are in it?
2. How much is in one serving — and how many capsules make that serving?
3. What does the label say about warnings, storage and other ingredients?

A clear label cannot tell you everything, but it can help you compare products more intelligently and prepare better questions for a pharmacist or clinician.

Save this checklist — and bring it with you on Tuesday 12–6pm. Craig Cauley, CRPhT, NHC, will walk through it with you in a one-on-one consultation. Call (716) 298-7156 to book.

What is the capsule made from?

Two products can contain the same listed ingredient and still differ in capsule material. Gelatin is animal-derived. HPMC is plant-derived cellulose. A delayed-release design is intended to open later in digestion. That does not make one option automatically best for everyone. It gives you another useful label question: does the capsule fit your preferences, directions and intended use?

October 14 is World Standards Day—a fitting time to celebrate the systems that help strong research become reliable real-world care.
World Standards Day
Promising supplement research matters. Product quality helps carry that evidence from the study, to the shelf, to your daily routine.
Federal dietary-supplement manufacturing rules require specifications for identity, purity, strength, composition, and relevant contamination limits. They also require appropriate tests or examinations to determine whether selected specifications are met.
ecfr.gov +1
An RPh consultation connects three parts:
Evidence fit: Does human research support the goal, form, and amount?
Product fit: Does the bottle’s identity, strength, and quality control reflect that evidence?
Personal fit: Does it work alongside your medicines, conditions, preferences, and follow-up plan?
Supplements can be a meaningful part of complete healthcare. Standards help protect their value, while a pharmacist turns research and product details into an individualized conversation. NIH specifically includes pharmacists among the healthcare professionals who can help determine which supplements might be valuable.
