Okay, house chicken people… how do I keep from waking up to this mess every day? 🤣🐔

She’s inside right now because she’s injured, but the shavings are ending up everywhere. I was thinking about putting cardboard around the outside of the crate to help contain it, but would she try to eat it?

Any better ideas for keeping bedding inside the crate? 👀✨

Meet Chocolate. 🐔💕 She’s inside right now while I’m treating her for an impacted crop, so I set her up in the bathtub with food, water, and a little tablet entertainment to keep her company.

Apparently she’s a Brazil fan now. 😂⚽🇧🇷

Had to replace the floor in our coop and ended up finding their secret little stash tucked underneath. 😂🐔

Looks like somebody has been using this spot as a hidden nesting area for a while… and she was not thrilled about us discovering it. 🥚

Meet Red, named after the Red Sox. 🦆❤️ She’s our foster duck, and after losing her flock mates, she was really lonely and down. We were asked if she could come live with our chickens and turkeys, and thankfully they all get along great.

She’s been loving her heated little pond setup here at the Feral Farm. I rigged up a drain field system under the boat, use a transfer pump to empty it faster, skim leaves out, and change the water every 2–3 days. I’ve got the empty/clean/refill routine down to about an hour now. 😂

We’re in Michigan, so I’m already researching the best filter and aerator setup to add next spring. Any duck people have a system they love for keeping pond water cleaner longer? 🦆💧

I think my girl may be egg bound and I’m getting worried. 🐔💛

We’ve already tried warm Epsom salt baths and a little lubricant, but it’s been over 24 hours and still nothing. I was thinking about crushing up a Tums for some calcium, but I don’t want to give her too much or too little.

For anyone who’s dealt with this before, how much did you give, and at what point would you head straight to the vet? 🙏🥚

Two weeks ago we bought a house, and it came with 7 beautiful hens. I’ve never had chickens before, but I’m already completely charmed by their little personalities. 🐔💛

She hops right into the back seat and goes straight for the kids’ car seats, because apparently the real treasure is all the crumbs hiding in there.

Caught him proudly showing off his little “catch of the day” like he’s been waiting for someone to notice. I guess everyone on the farm has a job, and apparently he takes his very seriously. 😂

My worst fear happened today. 😢💔

A bear got into my coop and took my 6 girls that I raised from chicks. I haven’t found any of them, but I’m pretty sure they’re gone. I’m absolutely heartbroken and honestly don’t think I can go through this again, so I don’t plan on getting more.

Hold your chicken babies extra tight for me tonight. ❤️🐔

Has anyone else dealt with a loss like this? How did you even begin to move forward? 😢
