We know it feels early, but we’ve been planning for Thanksgiving since the last one, and so have our farm partners.

At Flx Garrett Miller, Garrett and the team raise their turkeys fully on pasture, regularly moving them to fresh ground so they’re always on clean grass with plenty of space to roam. The birds forage on pasture plants and bugs, naturally fertilizing and rebuilding the soil for the cattle and sheep that graze after them.

They’re raised with abundant sunshine and clean water, without hormones or antibiotics, and fed a non-GMO, glyphosate-free diet. It’s simply a better bird, raised in a way that’s better for the land.

We’re proud to be working with them again this year, and we can’t wait to bring their birds to your table.

Apple season is one of the best parts of fall in the Northeast.

Alongside classics like Honeycrisp and Gala, this time of year brings rare heirlooms like Rhode Island Greening, Ashmead’s Kernel, Tolman Sweet and Roxbury Russet. These old varieties have been grown here for generations, and each one has its own flavor, texture and history. Many of ours come from our friends at Hurd Orchards and Samascott Orchards.

Our specialty heirlooms come in limited runs, so not every variety will be available at once. Grab your favorites while they’re here and stay tuned for what the team brings on next 🍎

One of the prettiest (and most delicious) cabbages of the season is here. Red Napa gets its striking color from anthocyanins, the same pigment that gives Murasaki cauliflower, blueberries, and red cabbage their color.

It’s a milder and slightly sweeter cabbage than other varieties, making it great in slaws and wraps or mixed into stir-fries, soups, or braises. It keeps its color beautifully when cooked and is a great add to fall meals.

“10 stalks, laid in bunches please!”

That was Simon’s instructions this past summer, when our team headed up to Chester, NY to visit Simon Ziegler. We spent part of the day harvesting garlic straight from the black dirt. From there Simon and the team cure it, which develops the flavor. Once the papery skins set, the heads get trimmed and sent our way.

The same bulbs we pulled that day are the hardneck garlic you’ve been getting lately. Harvested with a little extra love!

Kiwi berries are one of our favorite fruits this time of year. A tiny relative of the kiwi with smooth skin you can eat whole, no peeling required. Native to northern Asia but grown in the US for over 150 years, they have a surprisingly short season which makes them pretty rare to find. Sweeter and more aromatic than a regular kiwi, with the same bright acidity, and they thrive in colder climates like the Northeast.

Grown by Clover Nook Farm, a 9th-generation family farm in Bethany, CT, established in 1765.

Their tip: let them soften on the counter before eating. The softer they get, the sweeter they are 🥝

Pawpaws are here! A very exciting delivery came in from our friends Local Bound Collective this weekend. They’re the largest fruit native to North America and a cousin of tropical fruits like cherimoya. Inside, the flesh is pale to bright yellow, with a flavor like a banana, mango and vanilla got all mixed up. They’re wild foraged and famously hard to find because of their short shelf life. Only around for a very limited time, so catch them while you can.

Fall is in full swing and so is radicchio season. A true staple of fall menus, bitter greens are one of our favorites this time of year. Right now we’re getting Treviso, Chioggia, and Variegato di Lusia in from Roots to River Farm. You can grill them, roast them, or shave them raw into a salad with honey, citrus, and parmesan. A fall veggie we love while the season is here. Happy cooking!
