The baby goslings are looking like real geese! They’ve done a fabulous job keeping the lawn mown under the watchful eye of Kaarlo, even if my planter herbs have taken a hit 😫. This is our first year with White Embden and Toulouse geese and they’ve been a blast! 🪿

Brought into the US in 1820, the Embden is one of the oldest domestic goose breeds. They are also the tallest; reaching more than three feet.

Toulouse geese Originate from Western Greylag in southern France and are a homestead favorite.

2026 brought new kids to the Hills!

Wasabi waited for single digit temps to pop, so these little bucklings spent their first night by the wood stove. Babies are drinking voraciously, and all three are back together in the nursery shed now that temperatures are a tad more reasonable ❄️

Wasabi, despite her smaller size, is our most prolific milker thanks to her wonderful personality allowing us to keep her in milk far longer than the others (we’re talking YEARS - so long as someone is there to milk her). She’s the perfect homestead milk goat, and it’s been a pleasure to see how great a mother she is! 🐐 💗
