🚨 Heads up! I-84 through the Gorge is a fiasco every afternoon this summer, both directions. Got stuck in it yesterday because I had forgotten about it. I see it’s a 70 minute delay westbound right now.

McCord Creek bridge construction means only one lane each direction (I believe for at least another month?) just west of Bonneville Dam. Busy summer season means traffic backs up for 5-7 miles each direction from midday through late afternoon. I just saw a pic of bumper to bumper traffic in Cascade Locks off the freeway too.

That makes the one hour Troutdale to Hood River drive more like 2 hours. It’s even worse weekend afternoons.

Drive early in day or evenings/nighttime for clear freeway. Then spend some money on the local places while you wait out the afternoon jam.
