The first fresh Black Mission figs of the season have made their appearance at the Monterey Farmers Market, and you’ll find them at Minazzoli Farms!

Minazzoli Farms brings these luscious figs to market from mid-May through November, giving fig lovers several months to enjoy one of nature’s sweetest treats.

With their deep purple-black skin and beautiful rosy-pink interior, Black Mission figs are prized for their rich, honeyed sweetness and complex earthy flavor. Their soft texture and jam-like center make them equally delicious eaten fresh out of hand, tucked into a cheese board, sliced over yogurt, or added to salads with goat cheese and walnuts.

Looking for a simple dessert? Split them in half, drizzle with local honey, and serve alongside mascarpone or vanilla ice cream. They’re also wonderful roasted, grilled, or baked into tarts and cakes.

Besides being delicious, figs are a good source of fiber, potassium, calcium, and antioxidants, making them a nutritious seasonal indulgence.

Be sure to check out fig recipes at our companion website, Edible Paradise! Link in bio.

Not all peppers are trying to set your mouth on fire. 🌶️

Many people think peppers fall into two categories: sweet or scorching hot. But the pepper world is far more interesting than that.

At Pinnacle, you’ll find a colorful spectrum of peppers—from sweet bells and mild Anaheims to earthy poblanos, flavorful Padrones, and spicy jalapeños. Each brings its own unique flavor, texture, and culinary personality to the table.

Poblanos are rich and slightly smoky, perfect for stuffing and roasting. Anaheims offer gentle heat and are wonderful in salsas and chile dishes. Padrones are a favorite for quick blistering in a hot pan—most are mild, but every now and then one surprises you! And bell peppers bring sweetness, crunch, and vibrant color to everything from salads to stir-fries.

The best way to discover your favorites? Try something new.

Brown eggs aren’t healthier than white eggs—but duck eggs might just win the baking contest.

Have you ever wondered whether brown eggs are healthier than white eggs? The answer may surprise you: shell color has very little to do with nutrition. White, brown, blue, and even green eggs get their color from the breed of the hen—not from what’s inside.

At Clara’s Eggs, you’ll find a beautiful assortment of farm-fresh eggs in shades of blue, brown, and white, along with duck eggs—a favorite among bakers for their rich flavor and excellent baking performance.

Duck eggs are slightly larger than chicken eggs and contain a bit more protein, healthy fats, and nutrients, making them a delicious choice for cakes, pastries, custards, and quiches.

Whether you’re making breakfast, baking a pie, or whipping up a weekend brunch, fresh local eggs make all the difference.

Stop by Clara’s Eggs today at the Monterey Farmers Market and see which colors find their way into your basket!

This weekend at the Aptos Farmers Market, we’re honored to welcome Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes — a remarkable local organization that has been helping nourish and support families throughout the Pajaro Valley for decades. 💚

Stop by their booth to learn more about the important work they do to strengthen food security in our community through their pantry program, hot meals, nutrition education, and compassionate support services.

✨ Ways you can help:
• Learn about local hunger relief efforts
• Discover volunteer opportunities
• Support community food programs
• Donate fresh market produce to families in need
• Meet the dedicated volunteers helping neighbors throughout the Pajaro Valley

One of the simplest and most meaningful ways to contribute is by purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables at the market to donate — sharing the abundance of the farmers market with local families who may need a little extra support.

Founded in 1989, Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes continues to serve farm workers, seniors, families, and individuals facing food insecurity with dignity, kindness, and care.

We hope you’ll stop by, say hello, and help support this wonderful community organization.

Have you ever spotted this unusual, bumpy green vegetable at the farmers market and wondered what on earth it is? Meet bitter melon — one of the fascinating specialty crops grown by KT Farms at the Monterey Farmers Market!

Despite its name, bitter melon is actually a fruit — technically a member of the gourd family, related to cucumbers, squash, and melons. But in the kitchen, it’s treated like a vegetable and is especially popular in many Asian, Indian, and Southeast Asian cuisines.

Its bold bitter flavor might surprise first-time tasters, but bitter melon has a loyal following for good reason. When prepared properly, the bitterness mellows and becomes wonderfully savory and complex. It’s often stir-fried with garlic, eggs, onions, pork, tofu, or black bean sauce, and is also commonly added to soups and curries.

One traditional preparation tip? Slice it thinly, remove the seeds, and lightly salt the slices before cooking to help tame some of the bitterness.

Bitter melon is also prized in many cultures for its nutritional benefits and has been used for generations in traditional cooking and herbal practices.

One of the best things about shopping at the farmers market is discovering ingredients you may have never tried before — and KT Farms is a wonderful place to begin exploring the world of Asian vegetables. Stop by their booth and ask questions…you just might discover a new favorite ingredient!

It’s lavender season at the Monterey Farmers Market! 💜

You’ll find these ultra-fragrant bundles of lavender at The Monterey Ranch booth, filling the market air with their unmistakable calming scent. There’s something about fresh lavender that instantly feels like summer — beautiful, relaxing, and just a little bit magical.

Did you know lavender has long been associated with relaxation and stress relief? We love tucking little sprigs into drawers, linen closets, and beside the bed to gently perfume the room. And of course, who can resist a cozy Lavender London Fog latte or a lavender-infused dessert? Lavender also adds a lovely floral note to lemonade, baked goods, syrups, shortbread cookies, and even savory dishes.

Beyond its beauty, lavender is one of those simple pleasures that turns everyday routines into something special.

For even more inspiration, visit the Edible Paradise website for our special collection of lavender recipes and ideas. (Link in bio.)

Who can resist these golden little beauties?

Spade & Plow Organics has boxes and boxes of gorgeous yellow cherry tomatoes at the market today, glowing like tiny drops of sunshine. Sweet, juicy, and incredibly snackable, they’re perfect for salads, pasta dishes, charcuterie boards, roasting, or simply eating straight out of the basket on the drive home.

And yes — many people do notice a flavor difference between yellow and red cherry tomatoes. Yellow varieties are often slightly sweeter, milder, and less acidic than their red counterparts, with a smooth, almost tropical fruitiness that makes them especially popular for fresh eating. Their lower acidity can also give them a gentler, more delicate flavor that even some “non-tomato people” end up loving.

If you haven’t tried golden cherry tomatoes before, today might be the perfect time to discover a new summer favorite. ☀️
