Attending this weekend’s Scots on the Rocks Celtic Festival here in Moab? 🏴 This month's featured , the linden tree, has some history in Celtic folklore—according to the lore, if you sit under the linden tree, you will be cured of epilepsy. 🌳
This herb, also known as limeflower, is a “hug in a mug”. Herbalists turn to this plant in times of stress, sadness, fear, or when you just feel like giving up and are tired of adulting.
Traditionally, linden has been used as a remedy for feverish colds and anxiety. Its relaxing, antispasmodic, and sedative properties act on the intersection of the nervous and cardiovascular systems. They help ease anxiety, soothe nervous system cells (like your vagus nerve), relax cardiovascular tissue, and open up peripheral circulation. 🫀🧠
This makes linden a popular herbal choice for treating insomnia, anxiety, agitation, hypertension, nervous headaches, and other tension-related symptoms. It also helps support the body’s elevated temperature during colds, fevers, and respiratory infections—a sign of an increased immune response—helping to move those symptoms along. 🤧
Linden is most commonly used to make a relaxing tea. To make a tea, place 1 teaspoon of dried herb into 1 cup of boiling water and infuse for 10 minutes. Strain and drink hot up to three times a day. 🍵
