200 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450 The Market offers four types of vendors for shoppers:
> Farmers - providing farm-fresh produce
> Specialty Food Vendors - featuring products such as heirloom tomatoes, cheese, eggs or honey
> On-site Food Preparation - such as “lunch on the go” booths and guest restaurants
> Non-Food Vendors - including local craftsmen offering items such as jewelry, cut and silk flowers, homemade crafts and clothing. Ripe produce is harvested and then sold at the Market that day, providing an exceptional garden-fresh taste. Shoppers will find a variety of fruits and vegetables grown for flavor and have the opportunity to meet the farmers, perhaps discussing with them the growing conditions or special cooking recipes. And buying from Connecticut farmers also helps our state’s economy. Ample free parking is available at the parking lot on State St. Each week at the Market will be a new experience. Food booths with varying ethnic flavors, different community groups, and weekly musical entertainment will be just a few of the features.

On Sat. Oct. 3, a special tribute ceremony was held at the Meriden Farmers Market at 10:00 am to honor Mike Rohde, and his wife Nancy, for his leading role in launching the Market in its present location some ten years ago. Rohde, former mayor and multiyear councilman of Meriden, had the vision to create the market on the newly created Meriden Green (also a Rohde initiative), where Connecticut grown fresh produce would be made available to all.
To open the ceremony, MFM president Pam Fields paid tribute to Rohde as the Market’s founder. She was followed by Ed Peczynski, market financial officer, who described the history of the Market. Board member Mark Kosnoff then provided details on the Market’s early history; some 16 years ago, he, Dennis Barry and Peczinski approached then-mayor Rohde with the idea of creating a downtown farmer’s market.
Tributes were also offered by Meriden City Deputy Mayor Bruce Fontanella, City Councilor Diadette I. Hernandez, former City Counselor Miguel Castro, former Meriden Police Officer Hector Cardona Sr. and state representative Michael Quinn. This tribute session concluded with a musical performance honoring Rohde by Bruce Burchsted (on ukulele) accompanied by David Cooley (on harmonica).

This Saturday (Oct. 3 @ 10 a.m.) the Meriden Farmers Market honors the legacy and memory of Michael Rohde (1945-2025), and his wife Nancy (1946-2025).

“Leave your community better than when you found it,” was a familiar theme for Rohde, a longtime statesman of Meriden, who served several terms as both mayor and town council member since 1989. The Meriden Hall of Fame inductee spearheaded the campaign to expand the Meriden Farmers Market, helping to bring the annual venue to its current home at the award-winning Meriden Green.
