Maitake, also called Hen of the Woods, is growing all over our local forests right now.

Foraging takes time, energy, and someone who can show you where to go and what’s safe to eat. If you don’t have that person, Trish of Midnite Mushrooms is at the Media farmers market every week. She cultivates some of her mushrooms, forages others, and explains what she found. This week, she has Maitake.

Get some. Wipe it gently with a damp cloth. Sauté it dry first, then add oil and whatever you like. Even just eggs make it special. Let us know how you ate it!

Meet the Black Scorpion Tongue 🌶️

She’s pretty enough to be a centerpiece, and you can eat her too. The peppers start purple, turn red, and they’re milder than the name sounds, with a hint of apple.

Try them in salsa, on a salad, or in a stir-fry.

🗳️ Tomorrow, Monday, October 19, is the LAST DAY to register to vote in Pennsylvania!

You can register in two ways:

💻 Online: Visit vote.pa.gov before 11:59 PM tomorrow.

📍 In person: Visit the Delaware County Government Center at 201 W. Front Street in Media, between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM.

If you can, it is better to stop by the courthouse in Media, where you can get help with your registration and also request a mail-in ballot.

📬 Already registered? You have until October 27 to request a mail-in ballot.

Your voice matters. Make sure you’re ready to vote!
