Zucchini is definitely known for hiding and growing. 😂 this big one was found by my son when he went to check the garden. It was too big for my liking to use in the kitchen but the ducks definitely enjoyed it.

I’ve known for a while that my pumpkin plant escaped the garden fence. Yesterday was the first close look I took at the vines and I even found where the watermelon plant escaped. Still hoping for these pumpkins and melons to finish growing.

We had some unusual visitors today in the pasture. I’m thinking these are a type of egret but not sure. It was fun to see them out near the cattle.

Yesterday a nest under the chicken coop caught my eye. Turned out to be 2 nests. I gathered them and did a sink test. There were 42 eggs 🤦🏼‍♀️ 5 didn’t make the sink test and went to the compost. The rest I marked to remind myself to crack them individually into a bowl before using. Anything questionable will be thrown out.

Momma duck and ducklings were definitely enjoying this misty rainy day. Happy Sunday!

Finally made it out to the garden again to do some picking. We found a couple friends in the garden enjoying the blooms yet from the zinnias and marigolds. We found our first wooly bears of the season as well. Usually see them stripped black and brown but these were solid. What are everyone’s predictions for our winter?

Preserving food doesn’t always mean the jars and canner come out. The other night we enjoyed asparagus from our garden. Not the pickled asparagus but the asparagus that I washed and prepared and then froze. I simply took the frozen asparagus out and added the butter and garlic salt we like and added a few more minutes to the air fryer. It turned out wonderful! What’s a vegetable you would rather freeze than can?

A busy but productive day is always something to be grateful for. The tomatoes have been slow to ripen but I was able to make my first batch of spaghetti sauce. While doing evening chores I could see a storm system moving in from the north with a pretty light show. I was also able to make my first apple crisp of the season today making for a sweet treat for the end of the day.

Fly season is here. We try our best to help the cows and calves with controlling them and this year I’ve noticed the ducklings offering their services. 😂 didn’t think I would see ducklings and a calf so close together.
