June is here, and so is one of our favorite times of year — National Dairy Month! 🐄🧀

All month long, we’ll be celebrating the people behind the cheese, starting with our La Valle Plant Manager, Brandon.

Meet Brandon 👋

🧀 How long have you been at Carr Valley?
I have been at Carr Valley since May of 2023.

🧀 What drew you to cheesemaking?
I’ve always enjoyed working in the dairy industry, but what drew me into cheese is how a few simple ingredients can turn into something wildly different with time, temperature, and technique. Cheesemaking sits right at the intersection of science and craft. It’s amazing how small changes in bacteria, aging, or milk handling can completely transform the final result. There’s something satisfying about the process itself — heating milk, watching curds form, pressing, aging, tasting, and adjusting. Especially considering that at Carr Valley, we still do things the old fashioned way.

🧀 Why is supporting dairy farms important to you?
Dairy farms do much more than produce milk. They support local economies, preserve farmland, and carry generations of agricultural knowledge forward. When small and mid-sized farms disappear, communities lose jobs, local suppliers, and part of their identity. Supporting local dairy also helps strengthen regional food systems and traditions while encouraging sustainable practices that care for animals, land, and people.
