Celebrating 30 Years of ANS Seafood | 1996–2026 šŸ¦ž

The story of ANS Seafood began in the late 1970s with a single seafood truck, a strong work ethic, and a family commitment to providing exceptional quality seafood. What started as a small wholesale operation continued to grow, eventually leading to the establishment of ANS Seafood on October 8, 1996.

In a remarkable coincidence, 19 years later, on October 8, 2015, Nick’s twin daughters, Andrea and Lia, were born on the exact date of the company’s founding — a meaningful connection between the history of ANS Seafood and the next generation of the family.

Today, ANS Seafood represents three generations of family tradition, industry knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

From our wholesale operations based in Elmsford, serving customers throughout the region from Connecticut to Maryland, to our retail seafood markets in Elmsford and Mahopac, and our prepared seafood and take-out offerings in Mahopac, we remain dedicated to providing the freshest seafood, exceptional products, and personalized service our customers have come to know and trust.

As we celebrate this 30-year milestone, we extend our sincere appreciation to the customers, restaurants, businesses, and communities who have supported ANS Seafood throughout the years. Your loyalty and trust have been instrumental in our continued growth and success.

While much has changed over the past three decades, our family values and commitment to quality remain at the heart of everything we do.

We are proud of our history, grateful for the relationships we have built, and excited for the opportunities ahead.

Thank you for being part of the ANS Seafood story. We look forward to continuing to serve you for generations to come.

And stay tuned — there’s more to come!

🐟 It’s Tuesday, so you know what that means… another Nick Knows Seafood!

This week, Nick’s talking HALIBUT — and if you’ve walked past it in the case and weren’t quite sure what to do with it, this one’s for you.

Halibut is one of those fish that’s really easy to love. It’s mild, firm and flaky without that strong ā€œfishyā€ taste. If someone in your house is on the fence about seafood, this is one we usually recommend.

It’s also a premium wild-caught fish, which is why you’ll often see it priced higher than your everyday white fish. But with a beautiful piece of halibut, you really don’t need to do much to it.

šŸ”„ Nick’s biggest tip? Don’t overcook it.

A little olive oil or butter, lemon, garlic, salt, pepper and some fresh herbs — then grill it, roast it or pan-sear it. Keep it simple and let the fish do the work.

And this is exactly why we love having an actual seafood counter. Come in and talk to us! Tell Nick what you’re making, how many people you’re feeding or even just say, ā€œI have no idea what I’m doing with this.ā€ šŸ˜‚ We’ll cut what you need and send you home knowing exactly how to cook it.

🐟 Stop by A.N.S. this week, grab some fresh halibut and give it a try. We think you’ll be back for more.

🐟 Nick Knows Seafood: Let’s Talk Branzino!

Whole fish can look intimidating in the seafood case—but Nick says don’t let it scare you.

Branzino is the Italian name for European sea bass, and it’s one of the easiest whole fish to love. It has a mild, slightly sweet flavor with delicate, tender flesh—perfect even for someone who normally says, ā€œI don’t like fishy fish.ā€

So why buy it whole?

šŸ”„ Cooking branzino whole helps lock in moisture and flavor. The skin gets beautifully crisp while the inside stays tender and flaky.

And you don’t have to worry about doing all the prep yourself. We can clean, scale and gut it for you so it’s ready to season and go straight onto the grill or into the oven.

Nick’s favorite way to keep it simple: olive oil, fresh lemon, garlic, herbs, salt and pepper. That’s really all a great branzino needs.

🐟 Nick’s Tip: Don’t be intimidated by the whole fish. Ask your fishmonger to prep it for you, then let the fish do the rest.

Whole fish. Big flavor.

🐟 Nick Knows Seafood: Let’s Talk Swordfish!

There’s a reason swordfish is known as ā€œthe steak of the sea.ā€

Swordfish has a firm, meaty texture that holds up beautifully on the grill without falling apart—and its mild, slightly sweet flavor makes it a great choice even for people who normally say, ā€œI don’t like fishy fish.ā€

šŸ”„ Nick’s biggest tip? Don’t overcook it.

Swordfish is naturally lean, so keeping it simple is best. A little olive oil, fresh lemon, garlic, salt, pepper and herbs is really all a great piece needs.

And when you’re shopping for swordfish, look for firm, moist flesh with a clean, fresh appearance. If it looks dry or dull, keep looking.

Not sure what to buy or how much you need? That’s why you shop with a fishmonger. Come in, tell Nick what you’re making, and he’ll help you from there.

Fresh swordfish. Meaty. Mild. Made for the grill.

🐟 Nick Knows Seafood: Let’s Talk Salmon

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that all farm-raised salmon is the same.

That’s simply not true.

One of our most popular salmon varieties at A.N.S. Seafood is Ora King Salmon from New Zealand—and for good reason.

Ora King salmon are ocean-raised in the pristine Marlborough Sounds, not in land-based tanks. They spend their lives in deep, flowing seawater pens where tides and currents constantly refresh the water.

Just as important is what they’re fed. Ora King salmon are raised on a carefully formulated, nutrient-rich diet made from responsibly sourced marine ingredients, fish oil, fish meal, vitamins, minerals, and natural pigments derived from algae that give the salmon its beautiful color. Their feed is free from added growth hormones.

The result? Rich marbling, a buttery texture, and exceptional flavor that’s earned Ora King the nickname ā€œThe Wagyu of Salmon.ā€ It’s no surprise it’s the choice of many of the world’s top chefs and fine dining restaurants.

At A.N.S. Seafood, we believe the more you know about where your seafood comes from, the more confident you’ll feel bringing it home to your family.

Have questions about salmon? Stop by and ask—I’m always happy to talk seafood.

šŸ¦ž Welcome to Nick Knows Seafood!

For nearly 30 years, customers have been asking Nick the same question…

ā€œWhat’s the difference between Maine lobster and Canadian lobster?ā€

The answer starts with the water.

Maine lobsters grow in the icy, clean waters of the North Atlantic. Because they grow more slowly, they develop firmer texture, sweeter meat, and those famous oversized claws that seafood lovers look for.

At A.N.S. Seafood, we believe buying from your local fishmonger means more than just getting fresh seafood. It means getting honest advice, carefully selected products, and someone who stands behind everything we sell.

This is the first of our new Nick Knows Seafood series, where Nick shares the tips, tricks, and seafood knowledge he’s learned over decades behind the counter.

šŸ’¬ Have a seafood question you’ve always wondered about? Drop it in the comments—it might be featured in our next Nick Knows Seafood post!
