I sometimes get asked, “what’s special about your eggs versus other farm stand eggs in the area”? Well, our hens are never locked up, even at night! They are free to roam our pastures and woods from sunrise to sunset (we live at the end of a dead end road). Our hens are fed a custom ground feed mix containing 40% grass hay (we don’t use soy fillers) to keep their egg yolks bright orange all year. We grow an entire garden and orchard of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, grapes, squash, pears and apples just to feed to our hens. And all winter long, our hens are fed heirloom squash (the ones that look like squat-shaped pumpkins) to keep their beta carotene levels high (orange yolks). We really treat our hens to the good life so they can make great eggs for you!
