Not the most fun task, but every year with the cooler temperatures of fall, we start processing meat to freeze. We take a few extra steps that may seem like a lot of work (and they are) but minimizing waste is important to us. The resulting products are really beautiful and have so many uses.

I had my mom here to help so I finally got around to making a tutorial on hide preservation. This is just the fleshing process. After this we salt and dry the hides, then send them to Moyle Mink Tanner in Idaho so that the finished product is a durable hair-on hide that can be used as-is as a rug or decoration or cut for a variety of leather craft projects.

Meat processing is not everyone's cup of tea, but we hope that this video is helpful for people who are interested in tanning and processing hides after butchering.

When we butcher animals we try to preserve all parts so that nothin...

I think there are a few more does that are open then I would have liked but I will say I'm pretty positive that at least one of my AI's settled this year! Will do proper announcements once we get some blood tests done but, babies loading.....🍼

First baby goats should be arriving mid January 🥰❄️☃️

We didn't even have time to unpack the trailer before we loaded up for another road trip. Drove 8 Hour round trip to Idaho for a buck collection today.....IYKYK 🤣

This is Bigg's favorite job. Frozen swimmers available for 5/$175 if you need some of Biggs in your herd! 😘

I would say it was a successful day at the Missoula Renaissance Fair. Biggs and I where joined by my nephew Dyson and it was so much fun to have the extra hand around🥰 Biggs was extra sticky but also extra lovey ❤️😝😘
We'll be there again tomorrow if you missed us today!

The next few days will be a little crazy and stinky, doing heat checks. We're getting close to 21 days post-breeding for a good majority of the senior herd. A couple AI's I'm really excited about are not showing any interest in the boys this afternoon so I'm cautiously hopeful...
Talker here is unusually quiet for her.....and I hope that means shes got a surprise cooking 🥰

Our milk production is kind of slowing down for the summer but the girls are still chugging away.... with so many weeks of such extreme heat I wasn't expecting high volume late into lactation this year. Another test down! We will probably do at least one more before we dry off for the fall.

We did a thing yesterday.....

Strap in, it's story time!

We made a little drive yesterday to pick up a goat. Now I told myself we were NOT going to buy any goats in 2026, but that's not exactly what happened here.
We've been leasing our bucks to a small farm out in Ennis for several years now. Really amazing people who just wanted to keep a very small herd but did an outstanding job of keeping very well bred does. They really liked to milk thier does and did so with a dedication that most small farms only ever dream of. Because they didn't like to keep bucks they only bred a couple goats when nessisary and kept thier girls milking through.
So now we introduce miss Zara. She is a daughter of TUA Farms Zoom Party one of our reference herd sires (also sire to ) and a doe I told Ginnie I would buy a buck out of if she ever freshened again. She kidded as a yearling and then as a 2 yr old but hasn't kidded since and she'll be 6 this next spring. This doe has never had difficulty settling, she was just so good at milking they never dried her off!

I was definitely excited when Ginnie offered her to me! Yesterday was the day I drove out to Ennis. We got her home got her settled and she still milked well over 2 lbs despite all the excitement.

So if a Nigerian dwarf doe can still fill this much every day 40 MONTHS into lactation, yeah I'll be okay if it's not the biggest, or prettiest udder you've ever seen. We want genetics that milk, and boy howdy if that's not willingness to milk I don't know what is!

So welcome to the herd Fasching Farm Zara Zoom! Huge thanks to Fasching Farm, Ginnie and Richard for being so dedicated to your goats, I really hope all the best for your next chapter. Zara has been so well cared for and it really shows! Thank you for letting me bring this girl to Livingston. ❤️
