Even on the way to dinner we had to stop to make a video of this beautiful find!

This is a Mimosa tree (also known as a "silk tree"), and it has such a fascinating background. They were originally brought to the Americas in the mid-18th century by the elite, who prized them as ornamental plants because of those gorgeous, puffy pink flowers. Y’all find these along property lines all over our county!

Beyond just looking pretty, it has some truly amazing characteristics:

🌙 It has an internal clock: The Mimosa has its own natural circadian rhythm. You could put it in a dark closet and it would still close its flowers and leaves up tight at night, and open them back up in the morning without ever needing to see the sun!

✨ It’s literally the "Tree of Happiness": Known traditionally as He Huan, the flowers and bark are packed with active botanical compounds and flavonoids. Research suggests these natural compounds can actually influence neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, giving the plant natural anxiety-reducing and antidepressant properties!

Nature is absolutely incredible. 🌿💖

🌟 Artist Spotlight: Victoria Garley 🌟

It was such an absolute pleasure meeting with the incredibly talented Victoria Garley this morning! If you haven’t yet experienced her artwork, you are truly in for a treat.

Victoria is a masterful Glass Mosaic artist. She has been a contributing artist at the beautiful Fusion Art Glass Gallery in Seaside, FL, for over 30 years! Now she’s a local here in Suwannee!

Every single one of her creations is an original, one of a kind piece. As you can see in these beautiful examples, her stunning design collection covers a wide and vibrant spectrum:

🦉 Nature Inspired & Whimsical: Perfectly captured by the intricately detailed owl mosaic on the left.

💠 Modern Geometric & Art Nouveau: Beautifully showcased by the stunning, jewel toned mandala design on the right.

Looking for a unique statement piece for your space? Victoria accepts special orders to create the perfect custom artwork for private homes and businesses.

Beyond her current mosaic creations, Victoria brings a wealth of creative experience to the table. She and her husband spent 14 years owning and operating instructional art studios across Florida and North Carolina, where they focused on teaching Fine Art, pottery, digital camera classes, and even painting murals!

Let’s show some local love for Victoria in the comments below! 👇 If you’re interested in commissioning a custom piece of glass art, don't hesitate to reach out.

Nerding out over here! 🤓 Just added two more volumes to our "Department of Agriculture Yearbook" collection, and I’m officially not leaving the shop couch for the rest of the day. 😂

Our August Beauty Gardenias have been a little sad lately…. if you look at the yellowing, you can see why we were concerned. Even as nursery owners, we don’t know everything, but books help us form a plan to get them back on track!

We’re going to heal these ladies using a mix of coffee grounds, compost, and pine bark. Here is why that’s the perfect prescription:

Coffee Grounds: As they break down, they provide a slightly acidic boost, which is essential for gardenias to properly absorb nutrients. They also offer a slow release dose of nitrogen to help green up those yellowing leaves.

Compost: This acts as a "superfood," improving soil structure and drainage while adding a diverse range of organic nutrients to help the roots recover.

Pine Bark: This helps maintain soil acidity and provides excellent drainage. As a mulch layer, it also regulates soil temperature and keeps moisture consistent, which is crucial for a stressed plant.

It’s always a constant learning process, and we’re so grateful to have vintage resource guides to help our plants thrive! 🪴 Go check on your gardenias too!

We’re planting the seeds for something special 🌱

Tonight, we’ll be gathering to discuss the concept for a Suwannee Farm Tour.

This project will highlight local farms, nurseries, and farmstands across our region... giving visitors a self‑guided way to explore, connect, and support our growers.

🗓️ Date: Planning meeting tonight @6:00pm
📍 Location: Wild Roots Collective, Live Oak
🎯 Goal: Outline the vision for a 2027 launch

If you’re a local grower, homesteader, or farmstand owner, come share your ideas! We’ll talk about what the map could include, how farms can participate, and what makes our region unique.
