Welcome to this week’s “In the Market” update! 🌿✨

🌽 The first Esau sweet corn of the season is here! We’ll have a limited amount of pre-shucked corn available when the market opens Thursday morning. Then, late Thursday afternoon, we expect a larger delivery including both bags of corn and fresh ears. If you've been waiting on local sweet corn season, it's finally here!

🍑 Peaches have been a challenge this year. The Arkansas crop was largely impacted by the March 27 freeze, and while the South Carolina peaches we carried last week were delicious, they simply didn’t hold up through the weekend. We’re hoping to receive some Georgia peaches this week, but that is still uncertain.

🍉 We’ll also have a fresh load of seedless Black Diamond watermelons when we open. And yes, they’re seedless. No, they’re not GMO. Sometimes nature and plant breeding get confused with genetic modification, but these watermelons are the real deal.

🥛 Speaking of things people have opinions about, RAW milk has been getting plenty of attention lately. We believe everyone should have the freedom to make informed decisions about the foods they choose to consume. We carry tested RAW milk from Wilson Ranch and are happy to provide it for customers who want it. At the end of the day, do what works best for you and respect others doing the same.

Guys, it's nuts out there.

This evening I watched a customer absolutely unload on employees at a pizza restaurant. The workers were polite, professional, and genuinely trying to help resolve the issue, yet they still became the target of anger and profanity.

Maybe I'm getting old, but when did this type of behavior become acceptable?

The people helping us at restaurants, stores, markets, and businesses are human beings. Most are doing the best they can with the tools, policies, staffing levels, and situations they're given.

A little patience. A little grace. A little kindness.

It costs nothing and makes the world a better place for everyone.

Be kind to people. You never know what kind of day they're having.

A concerning incident occurred at the McDonald's location on Geyer Springs, where a mother is upset that her teenage son, an employee, was pepper-sprayed by a customer, an older male driving a 2016-2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck, due to a dispute over the price of pies. The mother expressed her frustration, stating that the customer was given a refund and free food, yet still chose to assault her son. She emphasized that her son, a recent high school graduate who is set to enlist in the military, was simply doing his job and was not being disrespectful. The mother is seeking help to identify the individual, who can be seen in the camera footage, and believes he should be held accountable. 😡

🍓 Strawberry season has officially wrapped up for us. The fresh berries were delicious while they lasted, but they simply don't hold up long enough this time of year. If you're not quite ready to say goodbye, we do have plenty of local, frozen strawberries in the freezer next to the ice cream.

🍑 We received tree-ripened South Carolina peaches today along with fresh Cabot blackberries and a larger load of Arkansas heirloom tomatoes.

⚠️ A quick favor: please be gentle when selecting peaches and heirloom tomatoes. We had quite a bit of waste last week from enthusiastic squeezing. A visual inspection works much better than a stress test! 😄

We lost a beloved family member this evening, and it served as a reminder that life is precious and time with family and friends should never be taken for granted. We meet so many customers who have overcome incredible challenges, battled illness, and continue to greet the world with kindness and positivity.

Take care of yourself. Count your blessings. Be kind to others. The world needs more of that, and so do we.

🍅 Arkansas heirloom tomatoes are in stock! And Double B Ranch smoked bacon is back Thursday afternoon, so grab a Buckman Brewhouse sourdough sandwich loaf and let the BLTs commence.

🍑 We also have Georgia peaches, and Moody Farms brought us fresh-harvested Adirondack blue potatoes. They are one of our pasture chicken egg providers and have grown us some beautiful potatoes too!

🍓 Strawberries will be here when we open Friday.

🐓 New to the market this week — Harper Farms, a regenerative farm in central Arkansas raising chickens on rotational grazing across their pastures. They stopped by last week with samples for us to try, and it was delicious! They’ll deliver wings, breasts, tenders, and ground chicken Thursday afternoon.

Welcome to this week’s “In the Market” update! 🌿✨

🥬 We’ve got a couple of fresh produce additions hitting the market this week including fresh okra from Georgia plus locally grown cabbage and yellow squash!

🍓 We are also hoping to source some strawberries this week, but they’ve been difficult to gather in quantities large enough to justify the Cabot run. You can always TEXT us or message us on social media to check availability before heading our way.

💚 We wanted to take a moment to say thank you for continuing to support local makers and growers. You’ve probably seen the news—prices on just about everything continue to rise. We’ve recently had several vendors approach us about increases, and in some cases we’ve had to part ways because we simply couldn’t make the pricing work in a way that felt fair to our customers.

At the same time, many customers continue telling us during checkout that they’re surprised by how reasonable some of our prices are. Just remember—a lot of these products are far superior to what you’ll find on the shelves at big box stores. Better ingredients, smaller batches, local sourcing, and people who truly care about what they make.
