💇♀️ IS MENOPAUSE MAKING YOUR HAIR THIN?
Let’s talk about what’s really going on..
If you’re in your 40s or 50s and noticing more hair in your brush, a thinner ponytail, or a widening part, you’re definitely not alone.
But here’s something important:
Hair thinning during and after menopause isn’t necessarily just a vitamin deficiency.
There are several things that can play a role:
🧬 GENETICS & AGING
Some women develop female-pattern hair loss as they get older, which can cause individual hairs to become finer and overall hair density to decrease.
🌸 HORMONAL CHANGES
The hormonal changes that happen during perimenopause and menopause can affect the hair-growth cycle and the hair follicle.
🍽️ NUTRITION
Not getting enough protein, calories, iron, zinc or other essential nutrients can contribute to hair shedding in some women.
🩺 OTHER HEALTH FACTORS
Thyroid problems, certain medications, significant stress, rapid weight loss and other conditions can also cause hair loss.
So before assuming you simply need a “hair vitamin,” it’s worth looking at the bigger picture.
Are you eating enough?
Are you getting enough protein?
Are you eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods?
Are you getting the nutrients your body needs?
And if you’re experiencing significant or persistent hair loss, it’s worth talking with your healthcare provider to help determine what’s actually causing it.
💚 At Mandy’s Meals, I believe nutrition should evolve as we do.
What your body needed at 25 isn’t necessarily what it needs at 50.
Over the next few posts, we’re going to talk about nutrition, menopause and healthy aging — including the nutrients your hair needs, why protein matters, and whether those expensive hair supplements are really necessary.
