Couscous is the national dish of Algeria and an ancient staple of the Berber people. For generations, it has been at the heart of family gatherings, celebrations, and everyday meals. Across Algeria, preparing and sharing couscous is a deeply communal tradition that brings people together around the table, making it a symbol of hospitality, connection, and home.

If you've ever wanted to try making couscous yourself, stop by the Info Booth this Saturday to pick up our free Algerian-inspired ta'am couscous recipe card, developed by Lebanese Flower Café - Lawrence, KS. You can also find the recipes at Score Lawrence all week. We'll also have two other delicious recipes available, each with notes on which Lawrence Farmers Market Vendors carry many of the ingredients, making it easy to recreate these dishes with fresh, local products.

If you make one at home, we'd love to see it! Tag the Lawrence Farmers Market in your photos or share them in the comments so we can celebrate your creations with our community.

We'll see you Saturday!

Did you know there are 28 active wineries in Kansas, and five of them are vendors at the Lawrence Farmers Market? These wineries produce wines that exhibit the unique “terroir” of Kansas, or how our environment, climate, and soil shape how wine tastes.

Kansas has a long history of wine making that was nearly lost during the Prohibition era. An important next step in this history is the creation of the Kaw Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA), which is a special designation that highlights the terroir of an area and its winemakers. Many of our vendors have been instrumental in the process of securing this important milestone for local wineries.

While the AVA has yet to be formally established, when it is it will cover 5,493 acres in Northeastern Kansas! Our wineries are excited for the positive attention this will bring to Kansas’s wine industry and local terroir. For now, keep supporting your favorite wineries at the Lawrence Farmers Market every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 824 New Hampshire St. in Downtown Lawrence!

What a wonderful Saturday at the Lawrence Farmers Market!

Summer is really beginning to settle in, and this weekend brought one of our favorite seasonal milestones—the first sweet corn of the year! Juniper Hill Farm and Jet Produce arrived with a truck bed full of fresh-picked corn, and it was exciting to see so many people taking home those first ears of the season.

The Market was also bursting with colorful flower bouquets, tables overflowing with fresh produce, families celebrating Father's Day weekend together, and shoppers showing off their favorite fruits and veggies with Team Produce buttons and totes.

We also had another exciting day of voting in our Local Food Cup as shoppers helped decide which produce would advance to the Final Four. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth, cast a vote, and joined in the fun!

If you think the excitement has peaked, think again. Stay tuned this week as we share more details about what's coming up for the Local Food Cup this weekend. We have some fun surprises in store, and we can't wait to celebrate with you.

We'll see you next Saturday!

We're trying something new this summer!
Throughout the season, we'll be sharing recipe cards featuring seasonal ingredients and dishes inspired by food traditions from around the world. We hope they'll help you discover new flavors, connect with local foods, and find fresh inspiration for your Market haul.
Our first recipe is an Algerian-inspired shakshuka, a beloved North African dish made with tomatoes, peppers, garlic, spices, and eggs.
Stop by the Info Booth this Saturday to pick up a free recipe card! We've even included notes on which Lawrence Farmers Market vendors carry many of the ingredients, making it easy to shop the recipe while you're here.
If you make it at home, we'd love to see the results. Tag the Lawrence Farmers Market in your photos or share them in the comments so we can admire your creations and maybe inspire someone else's next meal.
See you Saturday!

One of our favorite things about local food is seeing it travel beyond the Market and onto the menus of local restaurants and recipes at your house!

This week, we stopped by The Eldridge Hotel as one of their chefs prepared a seasonal special featuring ingredients sourced from Pendleton's Country Market, Juniper Hill Farms, LCG Farm, and Wild Hollow Farm.

The dish celebrates the versatility of beets, prepared four different ways: beet panna cotta, thinly sliced, beet chips, and roasted. Even the beet tops are incorporated into the dish and dressed with a bright vinaigrette.

We were lucky enough to try it ourselves, and it is absolutely delicious.

The special is available now through the weekend and will return Tuesday through the end of next weekend. We encourage you to stop by The Eldridge, enjoy this creative take on local produce, and then visit the Market to pick up some fresh ingredients and try your own version at home.

We love seeing the connections between our farmers, local businesses, and community members—and this dish is a wonderful example of what makes local food so special.

Among the sights and sounds at the Lawrence Farmers Market, there’s one accompaniment to your Saturday morning that you can always count on: music! We are fortunate every week to listen to tunes from classical accordion to Zydeco, flautists to folk singalongs, and everything in between.

We get lots of questions about how to busk at our Market, and the answer is simple: you just show up! Find an open area in one of our parking lots that doesn’t impede traffic or a vendor’s business and play away.

No amplification, please! We want everyone at the Market to be able to enjoy the music and conversations with each other. Come see who’s playing every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 824 New Hampshire St. in Downtown Lawrence!
