10/20/2026

Pick up a pumpkin at Superior Grocers and make your own delicious Pumpkin Horchata! 🎃🍂 A creamy, sweet, and refreshing treat perfect for fall! 🧡

Pumpkin Horchata 🎃

Ingredients

- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cups milk of your choice
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup pumpkin purée
- 1 large pumpkin (for serving)
- Ice

Instructions

Step 1: Toast the rice and cinnamon

In a dry pan, add the uncooked white rice and cinnamon stick. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until the rice turns slightly golden brown and releases a toasted aroma. No water or oil is needed.

Step 2: Let it cool

Remove the toasted rice and cinnamon stick from the heat and allow them to cool completely before blending.

Step 3: Blend the horchata

Transfer the cooled rice and cinnamon into a blender. Add 2 cups of your preferred milk, 1 can (12 oz) of evaporated milk, 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup pumpkin purée. Blend until thoroughly combined.

Step 4: Strain the horchata

Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any remaining rice particles. Add a little more milk if needed to reach your desired consistency.

Step 5: Prepare the pumpkin bowl

Cut off the top of a large pumpkin and carefully hollow out the inside, removing all the seeds and stringy pulp. Clean the interior to create a festive serving bowl.

Step 6: Serve and enjoy!

Fill the hollowed-out pumpkin with ice and pour in your freshly blended pumpkin horchata. Serve chilled and enjoy this delicious fall-inspired drink!
