El NiΓ±o is here, and it's a strong one! π§οΈπ
Warmer-than-normal water in the Pacific pushes the jet stream south over Florida. For us in Central Florida, that usually means a wetter, cloudier, cooler winter, and sometimes stormier days too.
We're already seeing it on the farm, with about 30 rainy days since September compared to around 21 last fall. Nights are finally cooling off, too.
What that means for your veggies: cloudy, soggy weeks can slow plants down a bit, so some produce may come a little later than expected. The good news is that our cool-season crops like broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, and root veggies love this weather, and a wet winter helps refill our lakes and groundwater. π§
We're still hoping we don't get a freeze like last year π€
