IT'S SALSA week at the Kingsley Farmers Market, and G2N Farm will be bringing it hot (well maybe not southwest spicy hot like you'd find in New Mexico, but Michigan hot for sure)! I had a blast perfecting my submission for this year's competition over the last couple weeks, and this morning I settled in on my blend. Our submission this year was crafted with a 7 pepper / 8 tomato blend made of all of our favorite heirloom peppers and tomatoes from this year's harvest.
When it comes to salsa, I don't want to just burn my mouth with no flavor, and I think I delivered on that this year in spades. The heat builds with this salsa the more you eat, and I found myself digging in chip after chip while developing a nice little sweat to go with the crazy blends of flavors. I hope you will want to do the same. I even brought in our favorite fruits from the farm and balanced the acidity of the tomatoes with some blueberries. We also softened the floral notes from the Habanero and Sugar Rush peppers with some fresh Michigan peaches. I hope you enjoy it... just don't ask me to repeat it since all of our salsas are one off farm fresh creations with whatever goodies we can find on our harvest table.
Each week this time of year, we are also nervous that we won't have a good spread of stuff to offer at market, and then its always fun when we get to breath a sigh of relief as we realize our worries were perhaps a bit misguided. We are bringing a veritable ton of sugar baby watermelons this week, a healthy picking of fresh, cleaned and bagged leaf lettuce and of course a mix of peppers, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes and so much more.
We will also be restocked with our popular blueberry vinegar blends and salts.
Sadly my parents visit to Michigan had to come to an end this past weekend, and that also meant Angie and I had to fly solo on the pie baking this week. I'm happy to report that my mom taught us well. Just look at this beauty made with fresh picked apples from the farm. It will pair perfect with our bagged salad mix and a jar of our corn chowder mix for a complete farm-to-table meal. We hope to see you out there this week, and we hope you enjoy our creations as much as we enjoy making them!
