The Veil is thin. As we quickly approach Samhain, Día de los Mu***os, & All Saints Day, the energy of the spirit world is palpable. Remembrance. Connection. Guidance. Love transcending time and space. Deep listening…..just a few things guiding my way during this special time. Even Uriah has been expressing how he is feeling his dad and gran around him so much this week, not even realizing the connection. This is a time of reverence and respect for the lessons and guidance from our ancestors that are still available to the living. By honoring & remembering we keep their spirit & influence alive in our lives.

In honor of the thinning veil, I have created a small batch of herbal tea blended with the specific intention of quiet refection and connection. Limited amounts available 10/30 & 10/31, while supplies last.

Many a moon ago my brilliant and amazing Naturopathic Doctor and friend, Dr. Alicia McCubbins turned me on to seed cycling, and not to be overly dramatic, it changed my life. The simple process of incorporating seeds into my diet at different times of the month gently and steadily brought my hormones into balance and connected me more deeply to the rhythm of my body.

I have shared this simple wellness practice with many women over the years. Yes, it is simple. Yes, it is effective. Yes, it is easy to get off track. Just because we know what to do (and it’s easy peasy), doesn’t mean we do it! After steadfast dedication for many years, I often found myself lacking consistency, that is, until I started preparing seed cycling bites…14 for follicular phase & 14 for luteal phase….tasty bites I could eat while enjoying my morning cup of warmth. As an herbalist, it is only natural these bites would not only include the recommended seeds, but also herbs and spices to further support the phases of menstruation.

For all the women who have told me they cannot stay consistent & the ones who have had trouble even starting, I am hitting the easy button for you! We will now offer pre-made seed cycling bites. I anticipate these moving quickly, so I would get there early on Tuesday to claim yours!

We women are beautiful & powerful portals of life. We are strong yet delicate, tough while compassionate, overworked but giving, fair and loving….and we are at our best when we are lifting each other up and finding the balance of mind, body & spirit! My hope is these bites can help a multitude of women in our community achieve this balance one bite at a time, without putting one more item on their To-do list….I have checked it off for you!

It hits you the moment you cross the threshold….this place is special. You can’t quite put your finger on it, but you feel it. The smell relaxes you, the music lightens your spirit, the prayers infused into the walls connect with you on a cellular level, your eyes feast upon the tapestry of crafts from around the globe, you are met with organic options to support holistic health, then you see it….the wall of herbs holding court over the entire space. This healing wall was the catalyst for the whole shop, and remains the fire stoking this passion project. It truly lights me up to meet you, chat about your concerns, and create a remedy to support your whole person. It is my great joy and honor to serve this community, and I can only hope you feel the pure white light of love woven into every corner of this liitle shop!

I have never been one to shy away from my emotions. I have always allowed them to authentically flow through me, leading some to deem me an overly emotional crier….but to me, I just say I allow my heart to be touched. Birthdays have long been a time of heart touchings, as I oft find myself revelling in nostalgia, reviewing snapshots of birthdays past, the people there, the places I was enjoying, the moments of innocence & bliss. Having a half a century to gaze upon produced plenty of fodder for my sentimental mind to chew through. I replayed joys of childhood, hugs from my mother, grandmother & countless family members who have departed this side of the cosmos. I thought about all the days spent with my late husband and other friends now dancing across the stars. I remembered all the places & faces who have made up the tapestry of my life, and I cried….not for the past, not for the loss, not for the longing….I cried for the absolute beauty of it all! What a privilege to look back on such a beautiful life, and to know this is only the half way point….so many more beautiful moments are still waiting to arrive! With every call, text, hug, visit, & high-5 given, I was left more convinced than ever nothing (good, bad or indifferent) we experience in life is by accident. We are joined together by an invisible string made of the pure white light of love….when we clearly see and feel its vibration, we start to see life, our stories, our meetings, our everyday musings, the blue bird at your window, the hearty laugh of friendship, the losses, the heartbreak, the grief, all of it, every single experience, in a new light….love light if you will…and it is beautiful! I am forever grateful for each experience and encounter that has made me the woman I am today…and I am especially thankful for all of you! Thank you for accepting me, (tears of love and all), just the way I am….what an absolute joy to be alive!

We are quickly approaching the Autumn Equinox, and while many are drawn to the Solstices, this gal thrives in the balance the Equinoxes provide. There is a calm beauty in the acknowledgment of the equality of light & dark. It is the lovely liminal space between the fiery, gregarious summer and the cold, reclusive winter. We are given the opportunity to begin to slow down and savor all the little things. When constant running transitions into a saunter, we are able to tune in and listen; perhaps acknowledging the areas we have been neglecting in the heat of summer, and begin to take steps to nourish the body & spirit. This is a welcome and needed space. Our bodies need additional support as we move toward being in more enclosed spaces, less daylight, and adjustments in the way we achieve movement as the seasons change. This is a time for us to create the balance needed and begin intentional habits that lead to a healthy & happy Winter where we quiet, nourish, and prepare for the collective rebirth of Spring!So, while the Equinoxes might not be as flashy and dramatic, for me, they contain the essence of health & peace…Balance in all things!

Have you ever been to a festival and been blown away, not just by the music but all the thousands of tiny details that take the experience from awesome to epic?

Well, I have many times….and you know what they all have in common? The tickets sold out FAST & EARLY! When hosts don’t have to spend all their time & energy promoting ticket sales, stressing, then experiencing the big surge the week before the show, they can dedicate all their creative energy to the array of small details that make the event full of utter bliss!

Sure, it is sometimes fun to live life on a wave of spontaneity, but there is also a time to plan, think ahead, and get jazzed by making yourself a countdown to musical magic! As I think back to 25 years ago, i was sitting in an office in Asheville, surrounded by women who had chosen a career dedicated to the empowerment of women & children and the elimination of racism (basically a room full of badass change makers), watching live as the plane hit the second tower. The tears fell not only for the lives lost, but also for the loss of innocence and false sense of the freedom from fear we collectively held. This had happened on our soil. What’s next? What followed was a display of raw love, heroism, neighbors helping neighbors, a community and nation united. In this time of terrible darkness, the light of love took over and won….at least for a bit. In the past 25 years, we have seen our nation delve into polarization, division, and isolation, with an undercurrent of hatred and fear of those who are not just like us. This hurts my heart on so many levels. As we take this opportunity to pause & reflect on the atrocities of this day 25 years ago, I implore you to also think about the days after….when it didn’t matter if you were conservative or liberal, rich or poor, east coast or west coast or anything in between….there was love. Now, ask yourself, why do we wait for tragedy to strike to practice the golden rule of loving one another? What would it look like if you chose to lead with love in every interaction today? Then decided to do it again tomorrow and the next, until love became the bright light of habit? This isn’t just wishful thinking. If we can achieve this love and unity after tragedy, we can achieve it on a regular ol’ Tuesday. When we approach it from this lens, we see hate and division is a choice….a choice that is often programed into us by the powers that be….but I know a not so secret secret, LOVE is more powerful than any division we are being encouraged to have in our nation. So perhaps in honor of all those lost we can let our love light shine today & everyday to create the world we only get a glimpse of after tragedy. Why wait? This life is fleeting. It is time to BE LOVE!
