Hi friends and fellow beekeepers. Only one day this week end to check bees . Had to do my real job Saturday.
I went around checking hives. See if anyone needed space. Pop the top and look at the supers. I think I added 6 supers today.
When I got down to my resource hives they have been bubbling over. I decided not to just add boxes. Instead I pulled frames. And started new resource hives.
The plan is to take weaker hives first of July and split them up and use my resource hive boxes. To get them through winter. And ready to sell in the spring as over wintered nucs. Or fill in any losses.
Counted up my production hives / resource hives / nucs / queen rearing boxes. The current number is 77.
I need to raise some queens. I am ready to graft. I need to check the queen calendar . So I can remove finished queen cells on a week end.

Hi friends and fellow beekeepers. This is a special nuc box for raising queen cells. It needed some repair. So I made a new cover for it. Added a feeding hole. For liquid feed . I have never used this before. I purchased it used. I think I will give it a try . I just need to find enough brood and nurse bees. I think I can round up enough from my hives that are queen right. I want to make queen cells for the ones that are not. And there is a few. Wish me luck.

Hi friends and fellow beekeepers . I have enough bees well enough hives . I have mostly 10 frame a few 8 frame and a few 5 frame nucs up and running . @@ have a Bunch 4 by 4 resource hives. Up and running. I also have a three frame and a half dozen two frame nucs. I want to make queens and make resource hives to overwinter. So I will start now I was setting up resource hives with a frame feeder in them. So three frame and a feeder. Hope it works well. I also have five frame nucs I will try an inside feeder. The idea is less resources. More queens. And make resource hives for next spring nuc sales. This is the part I enjoy the most. If I can steel the resources. I may try grafting again. Just for the fun of it.

Hi friends and fellow beekeepers. When the the rain stopped I knew it would happen. I did not know where or how many but it was going to happen .... SWARM. This one was 40 up to start. But they moved down on their own. So now 20 plus feet. An a med size limb. I had to convince my self it would be ok. So I did it and went up slowly.
Two trips up and I got most of them. I did not look for the queen. Just put them in the box. Added some sugar syrup and we will see if they stay.

Hi friends and fellow beekeepers. I am trying it again. I would say they swarmed and the queen is gone. Scott did not find the queen and found lots of queen cells. So I put them in two frame queen mating boxes. I know it seems like a southern thing. But we must keep trying until I get it right. I also have a three frame mating nuc by Lyson. I can't wait to give that a try. I feel better about the three frame over the two frame. Learning curve. I built them a few years ago.

So while making nucs we found some capped queen cells . That means we did not find the queen. As much as I like the queen I have. I am betting she flew away. With good luck she will find her way to one of my swarm traps . I will drop in a new mated queen . I took the frames with queen cells and put them in a two frame mating nuc . With a blank frame .. I will put on syrup. And with good luck they will draw out the frame and the queen will return and lay up the new comb.

Today is split day. Making nucs and new hives I started at Whipperwill farm. I had one out of two hives left. Last year was a test it went well. Loosing the hive was a total surprise . The remaining hive was large. So I spilt the hive down found the queen and moved her to the middle. Moved brood all the way to the right. And left some in the left hive. I will go back tomorrow and drop in some mated queens.
Sounds like a cake walk. But I am thinking of all the things that can go wrong . Just have to keep in mind the bees didn't read the book.

Hi friends and fellow bee keepers . Today feels like only the second nice day this spring . In hind site I should have been feeding for a few weeks now. I waited. The weather seemed two cold .
So I took the day off from my real job ... personal day . On the way to a check up with a Doc . I stopped and worked the bees at my brothers house. They needed food. Still had sugar on top. But not a full box . Reversed hive boxes. And moved some frames around ... put on two gallons of feed.
Moving on went to Byfield Mass. Broke down smaller hive found lots of bees and brood found the queen in the bottom box. Moved her into a nuc box. And added the rest of the split needed. Rebuilt main hive with some waxed frames to give them something to work on ..
Now for the big hive. I did not find the queen. I did find a capped cell. Made a split. Moved a bunch of brood. I looked through the rest of the hive. I did not fine the queen. I left a queen cell just incase. I also added a bunch of open frames and two supers. I will go back in a week and add supers to the first hive. Just ran out of time.
Sorry this is so long. I am just so excited to work the bees. lol

Dear fellow beekeepers and associates, I have been working in conjunction with a family-owned commercial beekeeping business that has recently closed down. As a result, I have retrieved two loads of equipment from their facility, with the larger load consisting of 300 pieces being transported this trip. While the equipment's condition may vary, I plan to restore it to a satisfactory state through thorough cleaning. Although I do not have an immediate need for the equipment this year, I am optimistic that the bees will flourish and endure through the winter months with the blessing of good fortune.

Hi Friends and fellow beekeepers. This was a really bad night. I broke down a stack of brood boxes with frames of comb . I was storing for spring splits. Thought I would unstack and remove the wax moth treatment . So they can air out.
Everything looked sealed and straight stacked . I started removing treatment for wax moths. And there was spots chewed out of the wax. I thought ok. Maybe I stored it that way. Could have happen. As I went down through the stack it got worse and worse. I had three boxes left in the stack and saw the first mouse. The mouse chewed a hole through the handle area ..
By time I got to the last box I killed a bunch. And a bunch got away. Out of a stack of boxes taller than me. I saved three boxes of comb. And they have minor damage .. I hate mice I really need a Connex box to store my boxes in. Note to self. Buy a Connex box before fall.
