Kennett Community Grocer

Kennett Community Grocer OPENING 2026: A community-owned (co-op) grocery store in Kennett Square, PA that offers quality local food from Chester County-area farmers/producers.

By shopping local, your grocery dollars strengthen your local economy, not a big corporation. KCG will be a member-owned, one-stop grocery store/community space providing Kennett Square with nutritious and delicious food, create living-wage jobs, and provide access to healthful nutrition education. We have a clear mission, passionate Member-Owners, and overwhelming community support to open a food co-op for all residents which can build and sustain the power of "local."

🌈 As Pride Month continues, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and recognize the ongoing work toward equality, visibility, and belonging.

As a community-owned grocery store, we believe community is about more than sharing a space—it’s about creating a sense of belonging. Community is strongest when people of different backgrounds, experiences, and identities feel welcomed, respected, and valued.

As we work toward opening KCG, we remain committed to creating a place where everyone belongs.

Happy Pride Month!

One of the producers who joined us at our Annual Meeting was Bre Forgione, owner of .

What struck me while learning about Bre’s business is how much intention she brings to it. House of Plenty isn’t just about roasting coffee. It’s about creating connection, building community, and helping people feel their best.

Bre sources USDA-certified organic coffee beans and roasts them in small batches, but what stands out even more is her passion for the work itself. If you’ve ever followed her on social media, you’ve probably seen that positivity shine through.

Recently, she shared a reminder that resonated with me: it’s easy to look at someone’s success and assume it came easily. What we don’t always see are the long hours, difficult decisions, and perseverance that happen behind the scenes. 🙌

House of Plenty Coffee is one of the many businesses helping shape what KCG will become, and Bre’s coffee will have a place on our shelves when we open. ☕

Kennett Community Grocer would like to thank Sandy Marts for an equipment donation of a hand sink and faucet to the new store. Here is Sandy explaining in her own words why she made this gift:
“In our former community, we experienced first-hand the wonderful benefits of a food co-op. We believe strongly that buying our food as close to its source as possible guarantees peak freshness, supports local agriculture, and shrinks our carbon footprint. That is why we are very excited about the Kennett Community Grocer. To express our support, we are donating a hand sink and faucet. “Why a sink?” you ask. Because our sink at home is very special to our cook and dishwasher, my husband. He especially likes a clean sink, as you can see from the attached photo of the note that met me upon returning home one day!”
Thank you so much! We look forward to seeing it installed in the next few months.
If you would like to donate to the opening of the new store, please do so at the following link.

Hi. Rachel here! 🍄

I had the chance to visit Phillips Mushroom Farms last week, and Linda and Bill were so incredibly welcoming and hospitable.

Bill took me through several of the growing facilities, where I got to see certified organic gourmet mushroom varieties being cultivated — so cool! The growing rooms felt misty, abundant, and full of life. He also showed me the packaging and fulfillment area, where mushrooms move straight from harvest to being packaged, boxed, palletized, and prepared to head out for orders. Linda also walked me through their mushroom exhibit, which was a fun experience. 🍄

They generously sent me home with so many amazing goodies that we hope to carry at Kennett Community Grocer. The products pictured here are only some of what they offer, and we’re excited about the possibility of bringing even more into the store.

Be sure to check out their website and retail store — and keep an eye out for Phillips Mushroom Farms products at KCG this year. 💛
