🎣 NEWS: State Record Hybrid Crappie Certified
🐟 The new state record hybrid crappie, weighing 4.27 pounds, and measuring 18.3 inches long with a girth of 16 inches, was caught by Jesse Miller of Middletown, Ohio. Mr. Miller caught his hybrid crappie April 1, 2026 while fishing near the Middletown Dam on the Great Miami River, using a spinning rod spooled with six pound test monofilament line and offering a minnow below a bobber. This fish marks the first entry into Ohio’s new state record fish category for hybrid crappie.

🤓 Fisheries biologists Kipp Brown and Mike Porto from Wildlife District 5 in Xenia confirmed the identification of a hybrid crappie, noting that hybrids are not unusual in water containing both species. Ohio’s record fish are determined on the basis of weight only and are certified by the Outdoor Writers of Ohio State Record Fish Committee with assistance from fisheries biologists from our agency.

This buck was shot with another buck still locked in its antlers. We covered this story a long time ago, and the hunter sent us pictures of the finished mount. I’ve seen a lot of deer mounts, but this is one of the coolest ways I’ve ever seen a story preserved. They didn’t just mount the buck. They mounted the moment.

Amazing for sure!!!

While ticks carry diseases and are generally unwanted pests, they are actually proof of creation. The the male wood tick has "suspenders" : two parallel lines on its back running from "head to tail". The female wears a white "necklace", or has a white spot, depending on the species.

Ticks are actually master chemists. The tick's saliva produces an anesthetic which allows the tick to attach itself to skin, and sip blood without us noticing. This is unlike a mosquito or a bee sting which we feel almost right away. Then it performs another marvel of chemistry - it turns off our blood's clotting mechanism. Normally, our blood clots when a wound happens. However, the tick's saliva is able to disable this clotting mechanism, thereby having a continual flow of its meal.

Random natural processes could not have produced these chemical reactions. Our Master Designer created the tick and this amazing saliva. It may have had alternative use before the fall, but it is still a marvel of chemistry in our fallen world.
