Really enjoy router sled flattening. Such a simple thing completely transformers even a basic wood cookie.

Flattened and sanded both sides. Ready for your next project. Roughly 15” diameter and 2” thick. 7% moisture. There are 4 more just like it.

Rub in some wax, cutting board oil or poly and it will really make the grain pop!

I guess it is “substantial log Saturday” again 🤣. Hour and 20 minutes down to Temperance Michigan to buy this beautiful Black Walnut! Feeling blessed lately finding good deals on Black Walnut logs. Not easy to come by.

Little bit of slab flattening today. Black Walnut. Here are a few before, during and after pictures. 25” x 50”. Started @ 2.125” thick. Finished to 1-7/16. Often you need to remove more than you think in order to get a slab TRULY flat on both sides.

Now that I have a reasonable inventory of wide slabs….it’s time to standardize slab pricing.

The Millstead LLC specializes in portable WIDE slab milling. I currently have over 60 slabs with the majority ranging from 24”-48” wide. Some are slightly wider.

Current prices by board foot.

😎. I dont often do a 50/50 share deal when milling. Especially big logs. It is a LOT LOT of hard work to chainsaw mill big logs….. but black walnut… even medium sized ones like this….I can make that deal. Going back next week to get more!!!

I brought home 11 slabs from 3 logs. (home owner also got 11) all 3 logs were 28”-30” wide.
