🖤❤️💚 Happy Juneteenth from our family to yours.

Today we pause to honor one of the most important days in American history — the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in America finally received word of their freedom.

Juneteenth is a day of joy, of remembrance, and of recommitment to the idea that freedom must truly mean freedom for everyone.

Here at Shapiro's Deli, we know something about what it means to come from a people who faced persecution. Our founders, Louis and Rebecca Shapiro, fled antisemitism in Ukraine in the early 1900s and built this deli — and this community — from the ground up. That history lives in our food, in our walls, and in our hearts.

It's why we believe, deeply and without reservation, that solidarity is not optional. The struggles of Black Americans are woven into the fabric of this nation's story — and so is their resilience, their brilliance, their culture, and their joy.

Today, we celebrate that joy. We honor that resilience. And we recommit ourselves to being a table where everyone is seen, welcomed, and valued.

Back then, the goal was simple: great food, generous portions, and a place where everyone belonged.

121 years. Four generations. One family. One deli.

Shapiro's Deli isn't a restaurant that opened because someone had a good idea.

It's a legacy. Built by hand, passed down with love, and kept alive by this city — and the hundreds of thousands of people who've pulled up a stool at our counter and let us feed them something real.

Race fans from around the world descended on Indianapolis this past week. And a whole lot of them found their way to us.

Friday of race week has its own personality.

Everyone is here. The hotels are full. 16th Street is a different world. Qualifying is done. The grid is set. And a certain electricity starts building that won't discharge until Sunday afternoon.

This is favorite day to work!

Come in today. Take your time with it. Order the thing you've been looking at all week. Sit at the counter. Eat a real meal before the weekend swallows everything.

Saturday will be louder. Sunday will be electric. Friday is still yours.
