Pollen - an essential part for a healthy hive. For pollen, a single honey bee typically brings back one pair of pollen pellets (pollen baskets) on her hind legs.
* Combined weight of the two pellets: about 10–30 milligrams of pollen.
* A strong colony can collect 20–50 pounds of pollen per year, depending on location, weather, and forage availability.
* Pollen is the bees’ primary source of protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals and is essential for raising brood.
🐝 Bee fact: A pollen pellet can contain pollen from thousands of individual flower blossoms gathered during a single foraging trip.
