Charter Farms Produce

Charter Farms Produce Charter Farm Produce is a family owned and operated local roadside farm since 1981 We open in the spring when asparagus is available.

We use as few chemicals on our produce as we can and still have a respectable product to sell. Although we are not organic, we eat the same produce that we sell and do not want to eat a lot of chemicals just to have a perfect product.

Friday June 5 6pm***

The LAST 28 # of Asparagus is in the cooler for the year. We had hoped to go a few more days but the patches are telling us they want to take a break and store energy for next year.

In the picture attached, the Asparagus on the top are what we strive for...Plump, Full, tender with tight top scales...you know, good eating..

On the bottom is what we are seeing about 80% of the plants producing, spindly, ridged, and the scales starting to open just as soon as they come out of the ground. This means the plants want to get ready for summer and store food into their roots to produce next years crop. The "ridging" also means the plant is producing more lignen to help the spears hold up to their bushing out during the rest of the year. That lignen is part of what makes Asparagus "stringy" and tough. All of these factors put together mean we can't bring you the high quality tender product you expect, so it is time to end the Asparagus for the year and let it get ready for next season.

We Thank you for your patronage and sometimes patience each spring.

Saturday 5-23. 6pm

Cooler is empty currently

We plan on picking tomorrow around midday, unfortunately with the cooler Temps the asparagus has not been producing as much as we would have hoped for for this holiday weekend. It does look like temps tomorrow and Monday will recover and we will do our best to have as much in the cooler as possible for your Memorial Day cookouts.

Please remember the real reason for this long weekend, it's not just about cookouts and an extra day off work. It's to remember those who died serving our country and allowing us to do the things we do freely
