The great household debate has begun…

Mark says the Meat Wagon has got to go. We’ve “moved on to bigger things.”
His wife, however, is not ready to say goodbye to this little hoop coop chicken tractor.
Mark already knows exactly why she wants to keep it… because she will 100% fill it with more chickens she doesn’t need. And that’s exactly why she’s fighting for it. 😅
So help us settle it:
Keep or $???
She’s a solid little tractor — holds 15 turkeys with ease, or 50–70 birds if you move her daily. Comes as-is (white tarp is coming off… the turkeys pecked a hole so they could keep an eye on their kids). No watering system or roost included. Over $ 2 0 0 in materials went into her.
Anyone interested, or should we just keep letting the “more chickens” plan win?

Mark said he needed a little help changing the tractor starter…
Well, the turkey clan showed up ready to work.
Linda has been glued to his pants the entire time, pecking at his legs like “Do you need help?” The rest of them have claimed every seat on that tractor and are supervising real hard.
Pretty sure the starter’s gonna get fixed… just as soon as the turkeys say it’s approved.

We appreciate you being the first person to jump up and get hands on experience during our quail processing demo.
You did a fantastic job! Thank you sir for taking time out of your day to come and learn with us. ❤️

We passed this chicken truck over the weekend and it’s almost heart breaking to see.
I’m not knocking farmers who run large commercial chicken houses. We had considered it at one point ourselves. We chose not to as these birds live in a building with minimal air flow, stay on their own f***s for weeks, lack sunlight, no bugs, no grass, no foraging, and the list continues.
Here is how homegrown chicken stacks up against commercial, store bought chicken:
The Lifestyle: Home raised birds get fresh grass, sunshine, and bugs in a mobile tractor. "Chicken house" birds live entirely indoors in massive, crowded commercial barns.
The Diet: You control exactly what goes into your homegrown birds (fresh greens, zero junk). Store bought birds get standard commercial rations designed purely for fast weight gain.
The Timeline: Backyard growers can choose standard 8-week hybrids or slower, flavorful 16-week heritage breeds. Commercial operations push birds to market weight in as little as 6 weeks.
The Taste & Cost: Homegrown chicken has a much richer flavor, yellow fat, and firmer texture, though it usually costs more per pound to raise. Store bought is cheap and convenient, but has a much milder flavor.

It takes more work, but knowing exactly where your food comes from is worth every bit of the effort! 🙌 It’s more humane and the simple fact of no bleach water injections, hormones, or antibiotics makes the choice clear for us.

Thank you to all that attended our quail raising and processing demo. We appreciate each and everyone of you. So many of you were very interactive and jumped right in with questions and processing. It was a pleasure to meet you all and share our knowledge. ❤️

We are working hard to edit the footage and get it up.

Shout out to Uncle John and Aunt Paula for all their support and helping HD video our demo.
They made the long haul with us and even found us the cutest cabins to stay in. Paula was bound and determined to find us a secluded cabin on the lake and she did just that.
Uncle John tells us to “Hit the gas and don’t let up” ❤️

Thank you guys for all the love and support.

If you’ve not tried SweetPeas Kitchen cinnamon rolls and 4 Shy Earl The Squirrel bacon, you are truly missing out.

This weekend, at the Eureka Springs Hootenanny Homestead, we were able to meet Brian with Fuller Homestead.
We had a great visit! Bless him he was an absolute champ as HD kinda took over the bed of his truck and his work area. 😅
Brian and HD also did a little bartering, a hat for some freeze dried treats.
HD is an avid hat collector and believes all things are possible with freeze dried skittles. 🤣
You guys jump on over and show his page some love. If you’re interested in all things meat production, especially meat rabbits go give him a follow.
