Terry's Blooms, Berries & Botanicals

Terry's Blooms, Berries & Botanicals We are working to create a family farm experience bringing connection through beauty, flavor and fun! We have 8 acres to do something with. What does that mean?

Growing up on grandma's homemade strawberry jam, made fresh from the humongous strawberry garden on her farm, I knew that I wanted to have fresh strawberries of my own someday. So when we came across a place for sale in the country that was close to our family and had lots of room to grow, play, and dream, we knew that it was meant to be ours. Exploring the field for the first time imaging what we

could do with it was so exciting. We walked to the farthest corner and sat down on the grass and looked out over the land. Where do we start? We know so little about the farming process, but we were eager to learn. We imagined fruits, vegetables, flowers... There could be a walking path... What about pollinators? Having flowers will attract the birds and the bees, they could also attract butterflies and hummingbirds. We envisioned a beautiful, relaxing country garden. Next was figuring out how to turn our dream into reality. It is a work in progress and we are sure that there will be many changes along with challenges, but it brings us happiness and we want to share that happiness with you and your family too. We look forward to seeing you someday at Terry's Blooms & Berries.

I just read an article about storing raspberries. I grabbed some bits of info from it, but lost the link when I went to share it.
Here is what I found:

The Conclusions
…If you buy raspberries, plan to eat them within the first few days after purchase no matter how you plan to store them. From there, you have a few options:

If you’re feeling “lazy” you should be able to extend the life of your raspberries to about five days:

*Remove any moldy berries from original packaging.
*Store remaining raspberries in the fridge in the original container if it's a plastic clamshell. If your raspberries come in a cardboard carton, you should transfer the berries to a clean, dry container. If you don’t even want to do that, you should assume you have, at most, three days to consume them.
*Rinse well (and gently pat dry) right before consuming.

If you’re feeling ambitious, you can likely extend the life of your raspberries to about seven to nine days:

*Remove any moldy berries from original packaging.
*Gently remove berries from their container. Double-line the container (or a shallow bowl) with paper towels. Put the berries back in the container in a single layer and refrigerate immediately.
*Rinse well (and gently pat dry) right before consuming.

What is an elderberry?

It is the little dark-purple berry behind many elderberry syrups, jellies, teas, pies, sparkling drinks—and yes, even wine!

How healthy is an elderberry?

That rich purple color comes from naturally occurring antioxidants. They are not magic medicine, but they are one hardworking little berry!

We have recently added several elderberry bushes to our farm.

Have you ever tried elderberries—or are they completely new to you?

If you have, what is your favorite way to use them? If not, what would you most like to try: syrup, jelly, tea, pie, or a beverage?

Another happy picker!
